Draft 2031 - Picks #1 - #5

ladies and gentlemen, the 2031 draft has started

(a little later than planned since i was having problems with the draft lists derek helped me to sort out ...)

so here's the first few picks:
2031 170 Bulls Draft C Greg Oden with pick #1 of round 1.
2031 170 Bucks Draft SF Kevin Durant with pick #2 of round 1.
2031 170 Hornets Draft C Joakim Noah with pick #3 of round 1.
2031 170 Bulls Draft C Spencer Hawes with pick #4 of round 1.
2031 170 Mavericks Draft PF Al Horford with pick #5 of round 1.

(and for those who feel like they've just witnessed some different setup a minute ago ... you are RIGHT, no need for therapy. As I said, draft list from the past two seasons got mixed up and I somehow missed the Bucks selection ... it's been corrected now)

and the poor Hornets are the main culprits of the lottery indeed, going #3 in a draft 2 deep with franchise players.
(Guess Earl made sure for the rest of the decade they are on the bad side of luck ...)

Really thought Horford would go 3 coz he seems to be a more all-around player

Definitely interesting...Bulls get a great pick in Oden, but Specer Hawes is a little odd, maybe a best player available pick.  This means Hilton Armstrong is virually gone.

Obviously the Bucks pick is a no-brainer, Durant will give them a much needed #1 option for seasons to come.

Hornets taking Noah at #3 is a good pick, I'm guessing he knows the potential.  Hornets gets a solid defensive player and a top 3 rebounder in this class, we all know how big rebounding can be.  Noah could be a B- A- A- guy, which would mean this was a great pick up at #3.

I think Al Horford is a great pick up at #5.  He is a solid scorer and defender, according to ratings, and is a very good rebounder.  I think he's probably the 3rd best player in the draft, not knowing potentials. 

Good job gentelman, let's keep this thing rolling and get these picks in.

Well I assume the hornets have checked noah's pot and it is the good shit.

I had a list for 11 and one of these guys wasnt even on it. Another was at 10. I really like the idea of getting one of the guys in my top 9 for this draft. It's top heavy.

I think there are three tiers to this draft:

1st tier: 2 guys
2nd tier: 5-7 guys
3rd tier: the rest

Noah is definitely in the second tier, I'm just not sure how he'll stack up with the rest of the 2nd tier when all is said and done. I don't think Horford is that much stronger than Noah -- only +1 rating on him.

I think Horford and 2 very different types of players.  If I had to compare them to SSBA players, I would say Horford will end up being like a Don LaPorte type of player.  I think Noah would be more like a Jose Siegel type player.   They won't be similar players at all, and I think each actually went to a better place for the abilities.  I think Horford fits what the Mavs do better and Noah fits what the Hornets do better, so its a win-win.  I don't know which guys RaptorsGM didn't have in the list of 11, maybe Hawes?

I took Hawes before Horford for 2 reasons (I had my list as Oden, Durant, Hawes, Horford)

1. If you compare the major ratings (IN, DEF, REB) Hawes is only a -1 (-1 IN, +2 DEF, -2 REB). So since they are comparable, I took the bigger guy, with 2 years more to develop in theory (age 19 as opposed to 21).

2. I know both their potentials.

I'll be interested in seeing your rotation on the interior.  4 young guys, 3 of which can easily start on most teams and Hawes looks to be a more than serviceable backup.  Hilton Armstrong could be a borderline starter on some teams as well, you definitely have one of the best young interiors in the SSBA.

I was trying to decide between Hawes and Noah. Ultimately went with Noah b/c he had slightly better grades, though I was tempted to take Hawes because of his age.

here's hoping Durant turns out to be Durant  

that pick had to be made, but if the B- outside doesn't improve, and if he declines as opposed to improves elsewhere, he could easily be a bust.

I feel that between Hawes, Oden, Armstrong, Baker, Thomas, Harpring and Sprewell my youth is alive and well. Now if I can find a way to get a top 5 PG and resign 'Nique this team might be able to do a little bit of damage.
