I had sent him my acceptance of this deal via PM before the deadline. Hopefully that was good enough.

Agreed. If the past in this league has taught me anything its that this is now out of my hands, but I turned down some WAY better offers for the sole fact that this trade could be done now. No way would I pay this much for a one year rental if it's only gonna be for half the year and I hope that doesnt happen.

hope "him" is the commissioner (or trev forwarded it to the commish), otherwise I can't see that happen. (and no, I don't like this rule one bit. I never understood why this 24 hr FA trade rule exists. You can move every aquired player along to another team whenever you like (at least on his own), just not players you just signed, even if they were on your team for the past 25 seasons. Just makes little sense to me)

No, him was me.
I contacted PacersGM regarding my concerns on this deal, and I'll wait on his ruling. I just don't want to pay this much for a 69-day-49-game rental.

Let me see if I got everything straight: - Raptors and Jazz agreed to the trade before day 5 was run - Raptors posted before day 5 was run - Jazz didn't see it posted until after day 5 had been run - Raptors specified it needed to be done before day 5. - Raptors now don't want to do this deal at all (either day 1 or day 51) because Theus got his ass kicked in TC?

BTW, the best way to handle this from the Jazz perspective is to PM pacers and say "hey, I agreed to this trade, if it gets posted and I'm not around to accept, please take this as acceptance". Jazz is new (as are a lot of GM's), so this is an informational post for the future. Typically, this would be an open and shut case, as the trade wasn't official in time, and it wouldn't count. since jazz is new, it might be worthy of being lenient on the deadline IMO.

Incorrect on that last point. I wanted to do this trade on day 1 and still do. But if that isn't possible because of missing the 24hr rule I don't really want to wait until day 51. But I'm not new here, I'm not about to try to back out of a deal because of a TC....I wanted this deal to go through before day 5. Still do! Willing to pay that price for a 120-day-rental....not so much for a 69-day-rental.

Well, since we're both still willing to do the deal on day #1, I hope the commish finds a way to make it happen so that we both can be happy campers.

what you you talking about here all the time? What rental? Theus is 31, will play for 4 more seasons, is signed through next season and has 11 bird years. Patterson is a 22yr old rookie just completing his initial contract and will have 4 bird years next season. just curious, since you mentioned it like three times already, where is this a rental?

Patterson has no value to me other than his expiring contract. I don't have the hard on for 2nd round talent like you do and I like to keep a tight bench.
Theus is 31 and went -3 in TC. Like I said already, I play with a tight bench. The chances of Theus seeing time in my rotation past this season, especially when I have next offseason to try to target a better backup PG, is very low. Thus I consider him a rental...more clear now?

not really.
first of all, you will get to keep Saperstein 5 more sims, which is likely to translate to 10 more wins compared to Theus moving to Toronto on day 1. second, Patterson is a 2.2 mill expiring this season, Theus a 3.5 mill expiring next season, nice to have those. and third, "rental" means borrowing and returning (like in "renting JoeD" or "renting a loan to the Hawks"). very confusing term nowadays.
btw, I have a hard time seeing much value in any of the traded players last season, let alone now. so why in the first place did you give a 1st for players you have no use for ?

So now you are just injecting your own opinion in the matter when at first I believed it was a question of why I was using the term, not why I was doing the trade. You are welcome to think whatever you want.
And where I come from the term rental also implies paying an exorbiant price for an item that you will not be having very long - which is exactly what Theus is to me.
