Deal #1:[/b]

Nets send:

Danny Manning
Nets 2026 2nd round pick

to the Seattle Sonics for:

David Schrempf
Gary Ilgauskas
Dan Majerle
Sonics 2026 First Round Pick (#11)
Sonics 2028 First Round Pick

FTR, Net having cap space enables salary imbalance.

Deal #2:

Nets trade:

Gary Ilgauskas
David Schrempf
Cody Risen
Nets 2028 First Round Draft Pick

to the Utah Jazz for:

Kyle Dial

Nets agree, and thoroughly enjoyed the multiple trade discussions - it was a lot of fun. Thanks to all the teams that made offers. Will post thoughts on the deal later once confirmation is done.

Sonics agree - Hawkins and Manning are a tough duo to build around.

Nice dealing Nets ... hope this works for all involved.

Jazz accept.  Some of the most amicable trade discussions I've ever had.  Really nice dealing with the Nets GM.

Thanks, Jazz - just as easy working it out with you and Sonics.

Now, time for the rationale....

First off, I love Danny Manning, but I love taking risks abit more  Laughing and I have higher hopes hanging my Nets hat on Pryz as a prospect than I do Danny. I got the sense during the past year that he and MJ were fighting for the ball causing the ungodly number of TO's that the team experienced. That, and Manning also got abused by alot of 3's, so I'm hoping for a bit more D from the guy that is replacing him.

In this exchange, I move Manning for what basically amounts to Dan Majerle, Kyle Dial, and the #11 pick this year (I also hope to get abit of a pick upgrade in 2028 - we'll see, and got rid of some roster clutter in Risen and my 2nd).

I lose: 4 inches of a better offensive small forward (losing about 4ppg atm), and a little on the REB side - a modest amount.

For that, I gain: a guy at the same position who protects the ball better (1/2 the TO's) and who has just as much upside imo; the reigning DPOY who takes good care of the ball himself and fits my lineup like a glove; and a pick that will get me a nice player at a position of need.

I've wanted Dial since last off-season when I had an extremely lucky day one of FA, and made a much bigger Day 2 bid on him than he eventually took, so I'm lucky again to have actually gained some ground contractually - which is nice. Dial and Pryz will make one helluva frontcourt on defensive side with Koncak in the wings who is no slouch himself on that side of the ball. And when Dial starts to wind down, I hope to still have an improving Koncak and Wanzer doing their Jekyl-and-Hyde act on DEF/OFF to hold down the fort.

On the offensive side, I lose a certain top two option player, but am able to establish MJ abit more as the go-to guy, and feel very confident that between Pryz/Majerle/Wanzer I have at least two more scoring options before the FA season.

I have a pretty versatile lineup, with Majerle and MJ will be interchangeable at the 2/3 I hope, and look forward to seeing what kind of piece is available at 11 to fit into the mix.

Lastly, I've preserved enough cap space that I can still make a run at a max free agent and hopefully lock into this roster for awhile. Very excited to see how it all plays out.

My rationale.

I came to this team with little going right.  I have no 1st, no cap, and was a lotto team last year.  Furthermore, I have very little in young talent.

What I saw was a team that was going nowhere fast.  So, I have decided to blow it up.  I have some very nice pieces to work with in trades, and Dial was just the first.

What I acquired in this deal was a nice looking prospect in Illgauskas and a future 1st.  Exactly the kind of deal I am looking for as I dismantle this team.  A young prospect that I like and a future 1st.

I think everyone got what they wanted in this deal.  I am sorry to part with Dial, he is a defensive beast, but, I just don't think he can be part of my future and better fits on a team looking to win now.

Holy crap Todd, you've got some cajones. I think this could pay off though.
