well i understand that they had to trade him but come on this worse than the garnett trade.
just expirings pretty bad picks with the main core of the lakers all under 30 years of age. Javaris has some talent but why trade for him with mike conley allready the PG of the future. and the lakers didn?t even had to add a bad contract like cardinal or swift.
this trade makes no sense other than we will have no the classic Lakers - Celtics rivalery back. the lakers are so deep now that someone like walton could fell from starter to not playing at all.

I like Crittenton, but they already have 2 good young pg's. The lakers picks won't be worth much, and who knows if with the Grizzlies ownership situation if they even use the cap space. I agree, terrible return.

Yup, as I said in the Sixers RealGM forum, terrible return.
Let's look at this from a FBB standpoint:
Lakers trade: Kwame Brown -- B- C- D- B+ B- C Crittenton -- C+ C B B C- A 2 late firsts
Grizz trade: Pau Gasol -- A- C C A- B C
We would definitely flame anyone who made a trade like that in this league.

You would like to think they could have gotten more, but the one good thing about this deal is that they have about $15mil in cap room after the draft, which is the most out of any team in the league. So they could offer the most money to the biggest free agents. Though if they come up empty, then its a huge huge mistake.

It's actually about $10 million. they have about $48.5 million in committed salaries for next year, which puts them about a half million ahead of the Sixers for most in the league (assuming the Sixers don't renounce their rights to Iguodala or Lou Williams).

they will be around 44 mill next season. but i guess Miller will be next. Maybe they deal him to Miami. if they can get beasley it might be worth but FA won?t save the situation in Memphis. Remember who they signed with their money this year (Darko) and before (Cardinal). maybe they save the money for 09 or even 010.

dont count out the Stro Swift to Nets deal being for Magloire instead of Collins, Magloire is expiring If that becomes a finished deal, then it could change things. But as of right now they're about the exact same as the Sixers (ca 10 million).

Someone has an option that wont be picked up that we arent counting?

Hollinger could also be wrong. It does happen from time to time where sportswriters are wrong.
I've checked storytellers, hoopshype, and partricia bender, and I don't see any options I'm missing.

from my information:
This is what they have committed for next year.
Mike Jesus Miller: $9,128,575 Darko Milicic: $7,020,000 Brian Cardinal: $6,300,000 Swift or Collins (they earn the same): $6,200,000 Mike Conley: $3,630,480 Rudy Gay: $2,579,400 Hakim Warrick: $2,119,102 Javaris Crittenton: $1,381,560 Kyle Lowry: $1,163,520
Total: $39,522,637
Total doesn't include Stoudamire's buyout, which is somewhere between $0 and $2.3 million. Probably about somewhere halfway between.
FREE AGENTS TO BE RENOUNCED BECAUSE WHO GIVES A TOSS:
Andre Brown (cap hold would be $963,263) Casey Jacobsen (cap hold would be $924,732) Kwame Brown (cap hold would be $13,612,500)
FREE AGENTS THEY'LL WANT TO KEEP:
Juan Carlos Navarro (cap hold would be $886,517)
For only having 11 players under contract, including renouncements, an additional cap hold of $442,114 will be billed for the 12th spot.
Now, for argument's sake, let's assume Damon got exactly half of his guaranteed money, leaving a buyout of $1.15 million with no set-off. Let's assume that all except Navarro are renounced, and let's assume that they pick third.
That gives Memphis a salary figure, before free agency, of $43,905,468, versus a salary cap of $57 millionish.

Damon's contract was for 4.65 million next year, not 2.3. I doubt his buyout is 1.15 million for a 4.6 million contract. They also have the Lakers pick, which is another million, as well as a 2nd rounder (if they keep it).

This is the worst trade ever that i know of, just horrible, makes 0 sense for Memphis, picks will be worthless. And LA got Pau for FREE. Good job.
