I give up the 1st, which could be a lotto, but Whatley is only 23 and has a similar skill set to the 8th pick Mark Jackson who currently resides in Seattle.  I have always liked Whatley but never wanted to pull the trigger on giving up a first.  I hope after this seasons that some of my youngsters will be ready to step up into a more important role, and hopefully this pick won't be lottery.  Another bonus was being able to keep my FA money, now I can give it somewhere else, other than another PG on a roster that already had 2 young, not so good, PG's on the roster.  Hopefully Whatley can feed the monster that will be Sidney Green this season.

Whatley had a 2/1 assist to turnover ratio in the only season that he played major minutes. Maybe that's improved, but it can't be heartening when his ballhandling is his best (and basically only) attribute.
I don't know how much better the Hawks will be after this offseason, so lotto is a definite possibility.

pretty bad trade for the hawks imo. no way that whatley is worth a first and expirings. the fact that this league has so many talent at the PG position would suggest that it would have been wiser to invest some FA money in a PG rather than a first.
