Reasoning
We need GM's

New Rule
If a new GM contacts me and says he was referred by a current GM, that GM gets $500 upon the completion of the new GM's second full season.  For example, if a new GM begins in the middle of the 2023 season, the award money will be given after the completion of the 2025 season.  Only 1 GM can be listed as a referral, preferably the first one who told the prospective GM about the league.

Voting
There are three options in this vote.  If you feel this proposal is acceptable, please vote yes.  If you think this proposal has merit, but needs further revisiting, then please select that option.  If you think this is a bad idea and should not be brought up in the future, please vote no.

If 50% or more vote yes, then the rule will be implemented.  If 50% or more vote no, then the vote will be killed.  If neither reach 50%, we will discuss the rule, and post a revision shortly.

I'm not gonna vote just yet but at first glance $500 seems a bit excessive.

It's probably a little excessive, but I really wanted an incentive.  And not just to fill a spot, but to fill it with someone reliable.  That's why the 2 year minimum is there.

Anyway, it's certainly open to refinement.  If $500 is determined to be too much (after the debate), feel free to vote needs revision, and we'll modify it accordingly.

(btw, I myself have not yet voted, as I need to hear opinions as well before making up my mind.  I just wanted to throw it out there).

I haven't voted yet but would like to also see some minimum level of activity included.  Something along the lines of making 9 of 12 DCs and being active in the off season.  Giving 2 years worth of award money for a referral should net us a reliable AND active GM.

I have no problem with awarding cash, but $500 is too much, especially considering we are not that desperate for GMs. I would say $200 at most.

Also, why can't I see the vote count?

I wanted to allow people to change their votes, in case discussion changes their mind.  But I didn't want people to see the results, then change their vote because one of the two is "one vote away".

I think it should be something like $100 at the end of every year that someone you bring in stays and is "active" (Someone can define active). Give the guy money for something like 3 or 5 years. Better to spread it out than one lump sum.

I voted no. In my leagues the most I offered as incentive is $100 and that was only when the league was barely scraping by. This league is booming despite having a team or two missing. I would think we know enough people between all of us that we should be able to refer without being paid to do so - we should want to do it for the best of the league.

There is also nothing stopping someone from coming on just to help a buddy get money, barely be active, and then once 2 years is up he leaves because he never really wanted to be here in the first place.

So why have there been two open spots for weeks?

My guess is people havent been asking around as much as they could (myself included, but I was away)

hence why I'm thinking a finders fee might entice people.

My point was, with the core group here, we shouldnt need a finders fee. But this is a nice reminder that we havent been trying hard enough.

I didn't even realize we needed a Wizards GM. It's tough when it's just an edit that says a GM spot is open, since an edit doesn't show up as an unread message.

In the future, a large VACANCY-titled post in the GM section might be a good idea.
