League Rule Proposal: New HOF

Reasoning:
FBB has an incredibly weird scoring system, where essentially it takes up someones career achievements, places a numerical value to these achievements, and if you reach an X amount of points, it inducts you into the hall of fame.  The problem is, the value it places for each achievement is not in line with the true effect of a player.  For example, winning a 3 pt shooting contest or Slam Dunk Contest is worth more than being the most valuable player.  Being a participant in the Rookie game is more valuable than winning a championship, or being the playoff MVP.  The complete scoring can be found at:

The end result is that very few (currently only 1) players have made it into the hall, and deserving players are not getting the recognition they deserve.

New Rule:
I have constructed a new page where we can manually add players into the Hall of Fame ourselves.  The new page can be viewed at:

After the completion of a season, the commish will post a list of players who have retired.  If somebody sees someone on the list they think should make it, they will then post on the HOF board that they think the player should be nominated for the Hall of Fame.  A poll will then be posted, where GM's will get five (5) days to vote.  a 75% or greater vote will be needed to induct a player into the Hall of Fame.  A player will only get one chance to be voted into the hall of fame.

Voting:
There are three options in this vote.  If you feel this proposal is acceptable, please vote yes.  If you think this proposal has merit, but needs further revisiting, then please select that option.  If you think this is a bad idea, and we should stick with the computer decision of Hall of Fame inductees (and revising the idea won't change your decision), please vote no.

If 50% or more vote yes, then the rule will be implemented.  If 50% or more vote no, then the vote will be killed.  If neither reach 50%, we will discuss the rule, and post a revision shortly.

Yeah.  I really think this is a slam dunk rule.  The HOF is one of the most under-utilized things in FBB.  It's been very much a missing part of the league IMO.

I like the idea, and see no problem with acknowledging the league's best players - but I do admit that I don't feel the same conviction about the issue as the rest of you. Here in SSBA, you guys have stronger feelings about recognizing players accomplishments than I do about my wife.

That's something we could change at a later time.  It's hard to say though, since it's not real life and the player doesn't get to make a decision.  I'm sure we could come up with some formula, but some would be hard.  For example, Emeka.  He played more games with the Nets, and played with the nets in his prime.  But he did win a championship with the Mavs, and played the final 6 years there.

One option might be to have voters not only vote yes or no, but secondarily on the team the player represents when he enters (maybe by majority). That would make for some very good debates I'm sure.

I like the rule! I think retiree's should be voted on at the end of each season and top 3 should be admitted to HoF...

Obviously there is a back log, but if we take it as each class retires should be ok... Problem comes when 5 players are worthy..!

Is there any way to modify the point system in the program?  IMO there should be more than just popularity among GMs to get a player into the HOF.  Maybe using a modified point system to rank the players and only players above a certain level get voted on.  In short there should be some minimum requirments to be eligible for the vote.

A good example may be Antonio Daniels...the guy seemed to always be part of a winner but never really won any recognition.  IMO he does NOT belong in the hall and there shouldn't even be discussion.

BTW I have not voted yet but am leaning towards more tweaking of the rule.

I don't particularly like that rule.  Besides the controversy on who he should go in as (which becomes more important if you award points), I believe you benefit from having a great player by his wins and losses.  If you look at the points system as is, it's more geared toward attendance and team improvement, not team quality and player quality.  It's not meant as a rich-get-richer system, and I dno't want to change that.

I don't think there should be a set #.  I think it should be based on how worthy a player is.  Putting a limit on it will just leave deserving players out, and could force less deserving players in, and I don't really see the added benefit of it.

Nope, unfortunately it's impossible to edit FBB's scoring system.  But I think if we set it to require 75% vote, then that should weed out the less deserving players.  Sure, someone may vote for someone just because they played for them, but I myself am not going to vote for someone that wasn't on my team unless they're absolutely deserving.  I think this would fall on us being prudent on who we let in (which is really how the NBA does it, the decision is left in the hands of the committee).

I ended up voting for #3.

IMO there also needs to be some sort of quantifiable measure.  The point system is not a bad idea just the way it is set up.  Requiring a certain minimum number of points/awards to be considered for the vote should be built in.  As we get further into the game and some of the retro players become eligible we need to make sure our memories of the real players doesn't influence the vote.  In other words let's put Larry Bird in the HOF based on his SSBA career not his NBA one.
