It's been over 2 calendar years (and 14 SSBA years), but the time has come.  I'm stepping down as the commish of SSBA.

One of the things I prided myself on the first few years of being the commish is being on time.  Making a schedule and sticking to it.  It's imperative for a league to know when the sim's will be.

I can no longer reliably sim.  I simply don't have the time to be relied upon, and quite frankly when I do get home, I often don't have the ambition.  It's best for me to step down, and get someone that has the time to be the commish step in. It's the best for the league, and for me.  You want proof?  It's sim 8 and the draft preview isn't even up.  And, to be honest, it's become more and more of a job than a hobby lately, and I don't have the desire to run it on a day to day basis.  It's been something I've dealt with 3-5 times a week, every week, for the last 2 years running.  I simply can't do that anymore, and it's hurting the league.

I will finish out the year (regular season and playoffs), at that point the new commish will step in.  I will continue to help out as a co-commish (simming when the commish has to go on vacation or doesn't have time).  The site will continue to use my server space, for rosters, forums, kb and file archive.  And I will help out at certain points of the season (i.e. for extension offers, since it would be hard to explain how to do the database stuff, and possibly building drafts).  But I just don't have the time to do this every day anymore.

I would prefer for the next commish to fit the following criteria:
- Has used FBB before
- Has been around the league from the beginning (or close to it).

But I will listen to any applications from someone with the time and dedication to do so.  PM me if interested.

First, it was Shaun Livingston..

Now, its Derek..

Shocking bad news continues..

Well, its a fact that running a sim is a pain in the ass. And honestly, Im reallyx3 thankful for Derek's dedication with this sim league. (sniff...) I hope we can find a commish who can continue the legacy of Derek.

derek, thanks for not only the great memories, but for "living SSBA" and getting this whole mess structured. Everything i know I about running a league I learned by watching you doing it, and it's been great how helpful you were with all the questions I came up with.
 Cheers

it won't be the same without you, that's for sure, but i believe it's the right step to do.
(tell me how much "work" instead of "fun" it can get meeting deadlines)
 Hail

My vote would go to one of the veteran GMs here, namely *Hornets* (kind of co-commish anyway) or *PacersGM*

Sad news that is for sure.

What is best for D is most important followed by what is best for the league. I have no nominations to hand out, dont know many here.

I had to check my calendar and make sure it wasn't April 1st, remembering back to Derek's prank on April fool's day, but he has done a great job and hopefully whoever takes over can successfully take over the league and continue with integrity.

Bods - please tell me you will either be taking a team now or waiting for a certain team to come open and take them. You single handedly built this league - and as one of the most impressive leagues out there (in both time and activity) it is your baby, and I can only hope you will be sticking around in some way to continue to win championships.

I can't thank you enough for all the work you put into this. You are responsible for the thousands of hours I have wasted on SSBA - and I can't imagine how much moe boring life would be without those "wasted" hours.  Cheers

I second Trev's hope in Bods taking over a team when one comes open.

A shame.

I've been in a whole crap-load of sim leagues. Some I have been more involved in than other, a couple was commish of, D has definately been the most dedicated commish I have come across.

Good job man! Which team you gunna take!

Thank you Bods for putting so much time and energy into this league over the past 2 years. You did a great job! I think many of us are still the same guys from the beginning of this league meaning that people enjoy this league. You did great! Hope to see you take on a job as a GM in this league. I have battled your Nets many times and I need revenge for a couple of those. Smile

Derek,

Thank you so much for providing this league for all of us. even though i've never met any of you,I really do consider all of you friends, and Bods and Jem before him made it possible to meet and interact with all of you. Hopefully SSBA will continue to prosper under our new commish, whomever that will be. these last few years have been great, and i hope that we will have this league for the forseeable future. Thanks for all the fun, and hopefully you'll show the new guy how to be an effictive commish as you've been Derek!

This league is truly incredible, and a big part of it is because of you. I'm just echoing what everyone has already said that you have dedicated so much effort to this league with all of its innovative features that cannot be found elsewhere. While other leagues are still using the ancient fa system, and reward point systems that just don't work, you have created the custom features that have made them possible. I know that after you step down at the end of the season that this league will continue just as strong because you have laid down the foundations so that almost any Commissioner can take over. What other Commissioner has given up their team to maintain parity?

This has been a great hobby the past few years whether it was during class in high school, in the amazon jungle in Bolivia, in college now, or even in Ecuador this summer! Really, its incredible to realize how long this has lasted.

it really is a sad day in ssba but you should really be a team if not a co-commish.

The day has come. Well Bods, you were incredible. The league would not be what it is today without you. We just hope that can remain involved somehow. It would be great if you could have a team, or if not then be. like you said, somewhat of a co-commish.
