Celtics: No talk about your offers/discussions.

Personally, I don't like the trade at all.  The hawks have been fighting for years to get close to the playoffs.  They get within a game, and they give up.

...

Now they're hinging their bets on cap space and draft picks.  Again.  This is very reminiscient of Ivan Strong.  Let's hope they hit gold with their draft pick, because cap space is worthless if you're not winning.

And this talk about Emeka getting old?  Bah.  Bigs in this league have shown they can be very effective into their mid to late 40's.  Yao's 34 and putting up 31/15.  Tyson Chandler's 32 and having his best season.  Jermaine O'neal's 36 and putting up 22/10.  He put up 25/12 at 35.  Kevin Garnett is practically a senior citizen at 38 and i putting up 18.5 and 12.6.  TD was always effective. All of them kept their top-flight defense.

At 32 Emeka was putting up #'s higher than his career averages across the board.  14.4 rpg and 4.2 bpg.  I think he should probably begin declining before you proclaim him to be on the downside.

And his offense...yeah, he might have only shot 44% or higher 3 years.  But his career % is 43.8%, and he's consistently in that 43% range.  20 ppg on 43% is a very good 3rd option with the other assets he provides.

This obsession with cap space could really cost the Hawks IMO.

I also don't thinkt the Mavs are a dynasty.  They have to win something first Wink

Emeka is a superstar. No contest. And he will be for a couple more years until he retires.
No player in the draft, no top pick, not this or in any season will come close.

The Hawks just guaranteed themselves a lottery life for the next 3 seasons since all they have now are some unproven guys (who couldn't get it done WITH Wade and Emeka) and picks that will take years to develop.

But hey, I will join them shortly ...

Lol 2 i would love to have such a statement in djsl but here the story is a little different.

I guess the main reason why the old guys are still producing at such a superstar level is because we never had a drafts to replace them. so still after all the years and so minor rating declines they are still superior to almost every rookies drafted.

Hawks did a poor job at surrounding Emeka and Wade with proper supporting cast. They had the pieces, some future picks to do so IMO.

ahem, writing "I offered better" is disallowed in completed trade threads.  Always has been.  Unless you have now become commish of this league too?

then i appologize for having been misunderstood.

of course this is a rhetorical question since my offer hardly can have been better than the Mavs offer or the current trade would not have been made. I thought that's so obvious it didn't need to be proclaimed explicitly ...

Sure.  And if you believe that then there has never been a bad trade in sports.

also, given the hard cap being moved way down, it's going to be very hard for the Mavs to keep the core intact.  Palacio and Emeka are both free agents and he's already at about 50-55 million in team salaries without them.
