lots of activity at the deadline, which is a good thing,

lots of big moves,

looks like the Sonics are making major moves to compete this yr, while setting up to rebulid or reload for next yr.

any thoughts?

We should have a very nice team for the playoffs with tons of room to add for next year.

Keeps that winning % up for the FAs that like to go to winners.

Lots of thoughts...
Sonics the big mover and shaker, and they may not be done quite yet.
Cap space galore, and getting Payton will keep them in the playoff hunt.  But the future looks bright.

Lots of trades made for a playoff push.

Warriors (me!!!)  give up some future picks and expirings to compete now, and plug in Big Ben at the PF spot.  Currently in the 7 spot, looks like they will hold that spot or move up a spot.

The Raptors trying to fill the hole left by the Rafer trade, and to hold on to that final spot in the East.  It is going to be a real tight race, with 5 teams within 3 games of each other as we enter the stretch.

Phoenix, trying to fill that hole at center...  Probably too far out of the playoff picture right now to make a run, unless the schedule is very favorable.

And the Bulls/Clips deal...  That is a franchise altering trade right there...  Alot of teams pinning serious hopes on this draft class....

I think if the only trade the Sonics made was the GP trade, they would have had an excellent chance in the playoffs. PG was really their only weakness.

If it was wasn’t for me foolishly believing that I could pick up and move No!Pete into the trade that was supposed to happen then I would have had a decent trade resume. But as it stands this year ate dog sh*t.

I think they would have done well in the playoffs, 2nd round at least.

But the Sonics likely had peaked...  With no draft picks in 2006, no cap room, and only two players with potential above a C (Swift and Pietrus)...  getting any further would have been very difficult.

Tough pill to swallow, but an gutsy call...

Your last trade was pretty good. You don't have any need for GP. You got some solid players for him.

Since I am going to be pretty handcuffed with the loss of the pick and being over the cap, I needed to make a trade that would add some depth to the team. It seemed like this was the best deal for me to make as I added strength in the places I needed it most.

Half your team seems to have B potential.. Next year's training camp will be huge for you....

That's pretty much my saving grace. My original intention this trading deadline was to try to move a few ugly contracts (succeeded in moving Blount's, nearly succeeded in moving Raef's) while surrounding Pierce with a young and up-and-coming cast. Hopefully training camp will prove beneficial to this team, although we all know how dangerous it can be to anticipate potential.

My only regret is moving the pick. I would glady trade Googs, Jiri, and Banks for MoPete again, as Jiri was expendable after the Sixers trade, Googs was just a warm body and West was outperforming Banks as back-up PG, so all three were just redundant players. But that pick...ouch. Oh well, you live, you learn.

I lost all of my big salaries, but still have a decent core for this year.

Big Z, Malone, Van Horn and Payton are enough to get deep into the playoffs.

Then, only two guys at a total of $1.6 million are locked up (Prince and Delfino).

With a high winning percentage, and loads of space, I should make a big splash in the FA market.  If not, I tank and get solid draft pick next year.

Either way, it works for the Sonics.
