Jazz accept

yes it is true, kirilenko is no longer a Jazz....a wonderful career, but team interests must look to the future...two lottery picks in this upcoming draft (Including mine) was the biggest pull for me and some insurance come 2017. 2016 pick was really holding me up but it was necessary and gives me time for my other rookies to develop. Mihm and fauber were reputable enough to hold me over until my real talent comes in during the following years.

I was only going to get less for kirilenko the longer i held on to him. As good as he is..he's aging, and i'm not going to be able to get this much potential for youth at any other point in his career. Any time you give up a player of this caliber you're going to lose a little...all the intangibles etc are gone...but i made out pretty well with my previous deal and so it gave me some more leeway to finally pull the trigger.

It should be obvious why I did this. I want to win, now! I realize I pretty much gave up my entire future but I think with Kirilenko this team can compete for a championship or at worst is one player away from it. I'm going to start kirilenko at sg with rashard lewis coming off the bench until I can trade him for a pf/C. I am really excited and only time will tell if I really screwed myself on this deal.

Well, the Grizzlies intentions are pretty clear. But will it work?

Since Robertson is a lock at C it looks like either Zach or AK47 will have to move over to SF, but for neither this moves takes advantage of the strengths, namely rebounding and shotblocking (AK). AK proved he's no SF. He can play there but he gets exposed more defensively and plays too far away from the basket. Same is true for Zach, easily the best Grizzlies rebounder.

Also going, and this might hurt as well, is Chris Mihm, the only backup C. Who will play the 15mpg  behind Robertson? Dorsey Jesse ??? Or does anyone believe Jeff suddenly avoids foul trouble with AK on board?

Now while AK47 should be an improvement over KMart i don't really expect too much improvement in offensive or defensive production for the Grizz. And with the main guys all well in their 30ies that's a steep price they paid here. Hope it's worth it, but reaching the finals would sure validate this move.
 Cool

Huh?  Didn't AK win both of his championships playing SF?

Oops,

yeah, he did indeed. He only played PF recently, I should have checked more properly. But still, he averaged about 7.5 boards then and 3.7 turnovers. Some difference to the current stats achieved mostly at PF. It will be interesting to see how he does in a new system as thats something almost impossible to predict.

But thinking again, after all the star power discussion we had earlier, this move is a good one for the Grizzlies. AK47 will give them another 3-4 solid seasons and i doubt any draft pickup will come close to his AllStar numbers in that timeframe.

If they just could have held onto Mihm ... Wink

he's his best at SF, his rebounding improves at PF, but his other numbers go down...the last couple of years his TO's have really dropped. He's an A def at PF, A+ at SF. His scoring has been down because i've had an outside focus and don't have him as first option.
