I'm thrilled to get a big defensive center (Tanner Houbregs ) in Jim Finley. I think he's a great fut alongside Ivan inside and can take some defensive pressure off him. Schenk is a decent point but with the addition of Jameer Schenk was out of the picture and with my confidence in TJ Ford and Trenton Dench he was no longer needed. The reason I was willing to give up the first is because I need a center and Schenk's contract ends so I'm willing to give a low first for Finely.

This deal might make some sense filling team needs, but ... I simply cannot believe that you have to add a first rounder to a still young PG recently avg 16ppg with a 4:1 A/TO rating to get a C avg 3.4ppg and 5rpg. This is simply AMAZING ...

This is simply AMAZING ... obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion but that 16ppg comes from when he was the #1 option for a whole season, as a #3 option he gets 12 points and had a 2:1 A/TO ratio. Yea the first might be a little much but a big center who can play defense next to a PF who can score like Ivan is a good fit. Schenk is a good player but Jim Finley can be a very good defensive center in this league.

In terms of overall value, I think Schenk is better then Finley, definitely. If Finley improves a lot, then maybe that changes, but it's not likely. So I have no idea why Hawks were the one to add a pick. They get a very bad deal here, IMO. Sure he needed a center, and Finley is a nice addition, but he could have gotten more for Schenk. And the pick with him...

Very sorry to give up Finley, but addressed a big need by getting Schenk at PG. His D potential and upcoming free agency gave me some reservations, but I ultimately decided that I either had to deal for Schenk or start Luke Ridnour at PG.
19 years old with his size, Finley projects to be a monster. But I couldn't justify keeping him with the backcourt I had. Signing Collier and resigning Pachulia should offset Finley's loss.
EDIT: As for the pick, if Schenk's D potential is true, and if he bolts during free agency (very likely, based on my past history), I'm covered. But a four-year guaranteed contract to a likely 28th or 29th pick doesn't seem to be worth as much as some here believe, IMO. Also, Finley has two years left after this year, so Hawks gets a very good young player for cheap for three years.

The funny thing is, the Nuggets didn't even NEED Fin anymore with Gadz, Zaza and Collier aboard.
This definitely fills a need for the Hawks, but at a very high price. They'll miss that scoring more than they believe now...

Jameer is probably gonna put up the same if not better scoring #'s than Schenk. In 14 minutes he averaged 7 points, if he plays 32 mpg then he should get more scoring then Schenk, his to's are the only place where I think he might not be as good as Schenk

I think this trade is great for the Hawks... They now have a 19 year old center who is alreadt an A- defender and B- rebounder. The guy is just huge, and will start for ten years...
And a perfect fit next to the Hawks PF, Strong...

In 14 minutes he averaged 7 points, if he plays 32 mpg then he should get more scoring then Schenk, his to's are the only place where I think he might not be as good as Schenk We'll find out soon but right now I tend to disagree. Nelson will be a much more "classic" PG distributing the ball (and this with projected 3.5 TOs and about 7.5 ass). He'salready shooting a lot more treys and misses the accuracy of Schenk too. So even if he gets 10-12ppg it'll be on 30% more shots than Alvin. But Nelson takes it to the hole more (he shot 50% more freethrows than Schenk in a third of the time !!!), so if his AI impersonisation works out (all the way to the thin frame) and he can take the pounding there he might improve his percentages.

I agree a defensive center is very important, and PG's are easy to come by in this league, but regardless, my only worry is that finley won't improve much more and turn out like Tanner. Talentwise, the hawks may lose out initially, but it's difficult to trade a pg for a good defensive center straight up.
