SSBA isn't the ClippersGM's job.  It's not like he's an inactive GM, so when someone that active is MIA on the most important date of his SSBA Season, I'm willing to give that person the benefit of the doubt that there's a compelling reason he couldn't get the submission in on time.

And obviously the ClippersGM has stated again and again that he's gonna offer Gordon the max.

You're last sentence is so critical to this conversation. He has stated again and again that he IS GOING TO offer Gordon the max. Not that HE HAS.

And it's the ClippsGM's full time SSBA job to run the Clippers. It is the exact same thing. That's what we do, we are General Managers.

Criminal?  Close to cheating?

I have a life too.

The full list of FA's available was up August 23rd.  That was 9 days ago.  clippersgm had made posts 3 days after the free agent list was set in stone.  Even if something came up, he had more than ample time to send in a list that simply contained "Ben Gordon: max".

Procrastination and irresponsibility are not my problem.

The fact that I have bent over backwards in the past doesn't mean I have to continually do so in the future.  I had every right to enforce a rule that has been here since the inception of the league.

My good nature is the only reason I am not set in stone as the 2009 ssba champions.  Keep in mind not only have I now cost myself Ben Gordon due to my conscience, but also given away a lottery pick.

Yes, but would that be the morally correct thing to do?

Would it have been right that you enforced the rule, ran the sim at 5pm, and got Gordon?

You have always waited for people on trade deadline day, and always you stand nothing to gain by these trades.

Do you really, really want to be seen as the type of person who waits on the sim when you have nothing to gain by running it early, and runs the sim ASAP when you have everything to gain.

Hey, I wouldn't have said a thing if you had ran the sim at 5. But someone would have. I understand that life is more important than SSBA. The deadline was set, at 5pm, and if you had run it then, so be it, that's the rules.

But there are people in this league who would have considered that close to cheating and criminal.

5pm is a soft deadline not for you guys, but for me.

That allows me to fit the sim into my schedule at any point between 5pm and midnight and give you guys no grounds to be mad that it was done at that point.  It's not for you guys, it's not a fallback for you guys when things don't go your way, and it's not an excuse to miss a deadline.

And FAR too many take it for granted.

Let's not forget here that I am agreeing 100% with the decision that you made today.

We all apprecite you're good nature. That's why this league has gone as long as it is. You are UNDERSTANDING, like Jem was. You understand that the ClippersGM was going to make an offer to Gordon, and you allowed him to do so.

For that, I commend you. It's what makes this league work.

But like I said, you HAVE extended sims by A DAY to allow a missing GM to confirm a trade at the deadline.

That's giving these GM's ALOT of lee-way (is that how you spell it?). But it's also not a bad thing to do either.

No, I didn't.

ClippersGM was incommunicado.  He hadn't posted in nearly a week.  I sent him 2 E-mails and 1 PM in the past day with no response.  I had no reason to believe that after 6 days of no communication he'd show up in the last 2 hours.  I fully expected the "deadline" (RE: extension) to pass with no word from ClippersGM.  It was basically a prayer I threw for him to make.

Yeah, you kinda did.

You knew that he had full intentions to sign Gordon. Right?

You extended the deadline, which in turn, allowed him to send an offer to Gordon.

Maybe you didn't expect him before you extended the deadline to sign on. Fine. But that doesn't take away from the fact that BECAUSE you extended the deadline, he was able to offer Gordon a contract.

No, it doesn't give GM's leeway.  GM's have been using it as a crutch, and it's got to stop.

5pm is the deadline.  You can't expect me to extend it to 7.  You can't expect me to extend the deadline.  It's your fault if you miss it.  Period.  The fact that I have bent over backwards in the past doesn't mean i have to do it in the future.

I waited to run the sim until later because I respect what ClippersGM has done with the team and I know how much it would have sucked to lose Gordon.  I did not do it because I felt I owed anyone, him or the league, and it certainly would not have been wrong for me to run the sim.

I've been running the sim at 5 more and more often now because it's most convenient for me.  I'm at work, when I get home I typically have sh*t to do.  I have a better connection at work, especially upstream.  what takes me 10 minutes to upload at work can take me an hour here.

Well, I have no problem with that, because I have never missed a deadline.

But like I said before, had you choose this time to put your foot down, someone would have said something, and it wouldn't have been fun.

So do it at 5 pm. Do it at midnight. You're the boss, you do it when you want to. I respect that very much. That's the right way to do things.

The fact that I bent over backwards to give ClippersGM a chance doesn't mean it would have been wrong for me not to.  Especially considering the efforts I made to contact him and remind him prior to the deadline, clearly not actions taken by a man trying to rip him off.

Exactly what I have been saying the entire time, man!!

That's what makes you a great GM. The fact that you CARE.

I don't want you to feel like I am disagreeing with you here. I'm very happy with the fact that you care enough to try to contact the ClippsGM.

But I also would have been happy if you had run the sim at 5pm, and then when someone enivitably brought up the fact that running the sim at 5pm was a main reason you were able to re-sign Gordon, I would be in this thread on your side. I would have respected that decision.

Soooo sorry guys for this whole mess!!!!

I had been very very busy in the past week. I am starting a whole new organization for basketball camps. It is sooo much work but it will pay off in the future.
I also have some tax problems (for a big amount of money) since I live in Belgium and work in Holland. So I also spent a lot of time with lawyer and tax advisor.
On top of that... I had a very important talk with my girlfriend. She is the love of my life, I would do anything for her. There would of course be no way to run away from that talk to go on the internet for a basketball game. She is perfect for me and gives me a lot of freedom. But no way would she accept me going to the internet for that game on an important night with a long important talk.

Anyway... I hereby thank Bods for giving me the opportunity to still give my Gordon offer! I had feared that I would be late, but he gave me a chance! I have had a lot of bad luck lately (taxes, car, insurance,...) so I really really appreciate Bods kindness!

Thanks a lot and good luck to everyone!
