you should specify what year the pick is.

Brown and Hughes are FA's at year's end.

Plus, Thomas at C, Odom at PF, and Jamison at SF will shore up my frontcourt for year's to come.

btw, the pick is a 2006 1st rounder.

I don't think you did bad, Wiz.  I think you got the best player in the deal.  I think Odom having a contract is also a very good thing.  Combine those two things and I think you did well.

Did you give up talent?  Yeah, but you had good depth.  You created a hole in your lineup at the 2 guard, but you weren't winning a championship this year anyway.  So I think giving up more talent to get the best player isn't a bad thing.

And for the Lakers, they're now in a rebuilding mode.  The pick can come in handy, and they have the potential to add two key players.  Not bad from either side, IMO.

your draft pick will probably be top ten, if not top five, if you are not a wizard with your DC and strategy (sorry for the bad joke  Razz )

On the other hand, Lamar Odom is very talented, and you would have had to pay a mint to Kwame and Larry to keep them there. I'm not sure that either are going to be worth what they are asking for (especially Kwame.)

If it was a 2008 draft pick, I would have liked it better.

Eh...I disagree.  Strongly.  In fact, I think he could make the playoffs.

If so then I like it for the Wiz. Kwame's greed is high, he'll be asking for 8 mil +. Larry, I think, will be worth his asking price.
Larry Hughes and a non-lotto pick for Odom is a good trade.

Yeah, it really depends on 2 things.
1) Re-signing.  If he loses either of the 2 players, Wiz def. got the better deal.
2) Draft pick.  Top 5 and it's a great trade for the Lakers.  Non-lotto and I like it a lot for the Wiz.

Ultimately, that's unknown.  But right now I think Odom's definitely the best player.

Don't know if I agree completely (to be nit picky.) If he re-signs one of those guys, and the pick is a top ten, then it's a wash I think (top 3 and it's a steal for the Lakers.) This year's draft is pretty strong.

My judgement against Kwame is biased by the last sim. He asked for and received a max deal that I don't think he deserved (with similar ratings.) His C potential makes it a little hard for me to imagine that he deserves a deal like that.

Bottom line for me: Wiz need to be successful to make this trade work in their favor.

Well, Wiz better win, or this is gonna go down as a bad trade for them.

If both Hughes and Brown walk, then Wiz get better deal.

But if they both resign, and the pick is high. Splizzouch.

BTW, I think analyzing "debatable" trades like this is good for the "noobs."
