Currently we allow you to sign any player and trade him within 24 hours. In the NBA, you can only sign and trade someone whom you have bird years on (doesn't matter how many, just that you had him last when he was on his contract). How should we do it?
Sign and Trade anyone: Positives: - Increases player movement - Allows players without cap room to be possible destinations for free agents. - Can sign minimum players midseason to be used as cap filler for trades.
Sign and Trade only players with bird years: Positives: - Directly in line with NBA rules. - Limits the amount of power/leverage cap room provides
You have until Sunday night at 5pm to cast your vote. I will then cast my vote when that time has past. Meaning, basically, if the vote is ties I will make the deciding factor. Think of me like the speaker in the house of representatives.

Would you like explanations as to why, or just a simple vote?

As of my voting, it's 2 for option 1, and 3 for option 2.
I'm curious as to why people think option 2 is better than option 1, which is what I voted for. Anyone want to break it down?
I think that having a bit of leverage with free agents to throw into deals is a good thing. We're not trying to be the real NBA here, so I don't think we have to mimic all the rules the NBA has.

My vote was strictly any player. My reasoning: There are alot of ways in which we do not emulate the NBA. Is emulate the right word there?
Anyway, look at some of the things that happen here. A sim league cannot possibly be the same as the real NBA. So why change some things?
This is a GREAT rule how it is now, it promotes player movement AND GM activity.

I votedonly with bird years. The reason why this is my favorite league as opposed to others, is that it follows the NBA rules. We use the 60 day rule and other things like that. I personally think we should keep in line and stick with only birdyears.

I prefer Option 1, because it generally will only involve adding minimums to make workable a deal that's already close to completion, and the free agent minimum players likely won't be important in any other stage of the process.

So, does this change the MLE trade rule as well? Can you sign a player for the MLE, and then trade him within 24 hours?
BTW, the NBA does allow sign and trades with non-bird right players. If you remember, the Sixers did that in the Corlis trade. They signed Amal McCaskil to a min salary contract and traded him, in order to get salaries to match. There was an article in the paper about it a while back...

I thought bird rights were only important once you had 2 years.
