so we're halfway through the season now, check out who's pretender and who's contender

Magic's Moiso is out 5 days (51)
Rex Chapman (Pistons) is out 6 (54)
Trey Wooten (Sixers) is gone for 8 days (55)
Keyon Brunson (Raptors) will miss 24 days with a torn abdominal muscle. No comment ... (55)
Brandon Roy (Pistons) is out 6 (55)
Byron Scott (Nets) is out 7 days (56)
Bargs (Blazers) is gone 13 days with some fracture ... (57)
Bender (Grizz) is out 9 with vision problems. Couldn't see that coming ... (58)
Benny Benjamin (Nets) joins with exactly the same. Of course 9 days, too. Forget H1N1, the vision pandemia is coming, my friends ... (58)
DRob (Cavs) pulled his groin. Takes 8 days to heal. (59)

Highlights from the ALL STAR WEEKEND:

The Soph's take it to the Rookies in a low scoring affair, as usual. Lot's of missed alley-oops and airballed 3pt shots from 28ft. Spencer Hawes (Bulls) with the MVP, a man among boys ...

Tommy Chamberlain from the Sixers took the 3pt shooting. The least worst shooter today in a lousy competition.

Nick Anderson (Magic) took the slam dunk ch'ship. Congrats, he was the best in all rounds.

John Stockton added an ASG MVP to his big resume, leading the West over the East. It was single digits in the finals, but this game was never close. 7 minutes into the 2nd quarter the West led 60 (!!) - 32 (!!), and still by 22 after 3 quarters. People started to leave midway through the 4th quarter. The eastern chokers should be ashamed.

So who's playing for a title now ?

The Pistons and Magic walk hand in hand atop the East, but the Raptors and Heat are staying close enough. Knicks, Nets and Bucks (both losers of 7 straight) look out already.

The Rockets lead the West, ahead of a pack of 7 teams seperated by only 2 losses. So the Western Conf looks either horribly weak (believe it or not, the 2nd ranked Kings would not make the playoffs in the East as of now) or ultra competitive, depending if you follow the glass-half-full approach or not. The good: only the Jazz and Nuggets are a step behind, anybody else is a game or two within the playoff spots.

So discuss ...
 Cheers

The Karl Malone era in Seattle started with back to back wins in impressive fashion....then completely flubbed with four straight losses.

It looks like this will work, however, as it is just a case of mixing and matching the starting lineup a bit.

Finally a game to check the play-by-play file.

Lost a close game to the Spurs, and this was in fact a game I learned a lot from my team. First we went without scoring for 6 minutes bridging the 3rd and 4th quarter, letting an 8pt Spurs lead become 60-80 with 10 minutes remaining (in that span we missed 6 shots and turned it over 7 times !!!). Still down 20 with 8+ minutes remaining.

But in the next 6 minutes my team gets 4 steals, 2 blocks, forced 2 more TOs and 10 missed shots by the Spurs. Giving up just 2 FGs we suddenly take a 1pt lead at the 2:00 mark. And had just one TO in that span.

Unfortunately we started missing 3 straight shots, and the final possession was just typical FBB:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quarter: 4  Time Remaining: 0:04  Spurs 94,  Celtics 91
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Celtics ball:

Christian Laettner inbounds the ball to Kenny Anderson
Kenny Anderson passes the ball to Larry Johnson (Left wing).
The Spurs attempt to trap him.
Larry Johnson shoots from the left wing.
It's Good.
Kenny Anderson gets the assist.

Final Score - Spurs 94, Celtics 93
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks, Larry. Who needs a 3pt shot when you're down 3 with 4 seconds to play ...
 Laughing

I need a win streak. Now.
 Cheers

Glad my team has been playing well through these injuries...  Divac, Brandon, Chapman and Roy have all had 5-6 day vacations...  Hopefully we stay healthy the rest of the season...

hahaha exactly.

terrible. we turned the ball over 25 times. bull.. .

The good news, Gasol seems to be ready for primetime right now. We had a block party against the Cavs. 24 blocks. hihi a team record.

The bad, we went 6-3.

The ugly, losing 30 damn points to the Heat... the frickin' Heat. jeez..  Laughing Laughing Laughing

Granger in 6 games: 11.8ppg, 6.2rpg, 1.2apg, 0.5spg, 0.7bpg, 1.7 TOpg, 39.7% fg% 33.3% 3p% 70.0% ft%....not too pretty not to mention Malone happened to destroy me this sim when I played the Sonics.

Vern Fleming in 6 games: 16.8ppg, 4.3rpg, 4.2apg, 3.3spg, 4.3topg, 0bpg, 40.2% fg% 32% 3p% 90.5% ft%
Makes me feel much better about the deal especially since I retained my 1st rounder for this year and gained an additional 1st rounder 3years from now.
