PG-Max
SG-Melo
SF-Peja
PF-Hoffa
C-Yao

If the contest regards only the peaks of careers, noone beats that.

Yeah, that's a sick lineup. But defense ain't that great. Specially on the perimeter (Peja & Melo).

I assume this takes into account each player's best seasons on their team.

C-Paul Maggette/Jeff Robertson/Pau Gasol
PF-Zach Randolph/Ben Wallace/Kenyon Martin
SF-Andrei Kirilenko/Vince Carter/Andreis Biedrens
SG-Jason Richardson/James Posey/Dont remember
PG-Lincoln Lord/Jason Williams/Sandy Carter

Thats probably the best lineup possible.

Not phenomenal defenders, no...but how many great scoring AND great defenders have we had in SSBA? Certainly not enough for any team to have ever had 5

C-Shaq/Magliore
PF-KMart/Amare Stoudemire/Emmanuel Griffin
SF-Kobe/Roan
SG-Pettitt/Vince Carter
PG-Hinrich/Havlicek

not the best, but thats a pretty nice lineup, and a strong backup at each position

PG English / Tinsley

thanks for the competition can´t wait to see the hornets lineup

I guess for the validity of the arguement it doesn't make much sense to judge each player by his peak year overall - rather his peak year with that team.

Title: Re: Make Your All Time 5!
Post by: NetsGM on December 16, 2006, 07:42:58 PM
C: Dalembert
PF: Emeka
SF: Mike Dunleavy
SG: Garrett Pettit
PG: Lincoln Lord

Bench:
Boykins, Kundla, Battier, Boozer, Paul Maggette.

No, that's not going to be the best all-time 5.  But that's probably the best 5 who actually played on the same team at the same time (and did so through 2 championship runs)

SF and SG are arguable (as both Billups and Boykins best years matched Lord's best year, and Kundla's 1 year was about as good as Dunleavy's best).

My problem was, once I got Okafor and Pettit, I didn't have any other superstar players.  Why?  Because I didn't use a superstar to get either Pettit or Okafor, and I didn't use Pettit or Okafor to get a superstar.

Oscar Ferry - I had him in his 25/10 days.
Rex Mehta - All SSBA 1st Team fixture.
Melo
Kobe/Ben Gordon
Baron/Nash/Tinsley  - all of them had all star seasons around the time I had them.

Calvin Booth/Kyle Dial
Troy Murphy (won 2 championships with the guy even though his numbers and ratings weren't anything amazing)
Andre Kirilenko
Larry Hughes/Andrew Toney
Antonio Daniels/Jason Kidd

yeah mine's boring, but considering that starting 5 won back to back championships, how can you argue?

Post by: RaptorsGM on December 21, 2006, 08:48:38 AM
I'd make a case for how my 5 owns every other 5, but I'm sure everyone feels that way.

Not picking a team that had Yao on it is silly though, if you ask me. The three leaders are Nets, Hornets and Raptors in my books.

Title: Re: Make Your All Time 5!
Post by: KingsGM-old on December 21, 2006, 08:51:11 AM
As i said, there's too much offense on your team and very little defense. I mean, Melo, Peja and Hoffa. That's major hole in defense on 3 various position. I don't think even Yao could cover that up.

And not picking a team with Yao, well, how many titles he won in the last 10+ years? One.

Title: Re: Make Your All Time 5!
Post by: PacersGM on December 21, 2006, 10:04:02 AM
and don´t forget if you go by position the raptors would loose at the most battles.

for example suns who are a much discussed team are clear better than raps imo

Pg battle could be close maybe even a small adv. to raps.
Sg is big in favor of suns imo
SF again suns are better
PF TD was the best PF hands down in SSBA ever
C Yao is better than shaq

so raps would loose that battle imo.

Title: Re: Make Your All Time 5!
Post by: RaptorsGM on December 21, 2006, 10:06:54 AM
If you make criteria, everyone can fill it

There are no standards, so everyone is just listing thei most prolific scorers at each position. I could list Yao and another 4 who would put up 100 a game while holding opposition to 80. Instead, I listed my best scorers.

Yao
Swift
Chills
Melo
Baron Davis

Thats one of the best defensive teams ever. It also includes 2 of the best pure scorers (both 30+ ers) and 3 other guys that can put up 15 a night.

Title: Re: Make Your All Time 5!
Post by: KingsGM-old on December 21, 2006, 10:09:34 AM
That's why i went with Suns, Hornets and Mavs. Those teams has it all. Offense and defense, complete package.

Title: Re: Make Your All Time 5!
Post by: KingsGM-old on December 21, 2006, 10:13:09 AM
But, if we're talking about people in their prime i belive Kings are right there, maybe even a top 2.

PG - Magic Johnson
SG - Tracy Mcgrady
SF - Dirk Nowitzki
PF - Tim Duncan
C - Rafael Araujo or Marcus Camby who was a absolute beast on defense.

That's just a insane lineup with shortest player being 6'6. I doubt anyone could match this team on a slower pace.

Title: Re: Make Your All Time 5!
Post by: CelticsGM on December 21, 2006, 07:36:50 PM
well, Magic will surely get there one day. Right now he's putting up huge numbers on a bad team.

But the more this discussion here goes on, the more it's getting clear this whole "franchise player lineups" gets you nowhere. Nearly everyone here had Dirk at some point and quite a few others switched teams frequently as well. But not a single of those teams ever played one damn game with that lineup.

(There is a reason, a "team of the century" is hardly ever compared with another one of those, you simply can't compare teams based on players in their prime. Take Dirk for example. On the Sonics he was unbelievable, the best flawless playoff performance on a not-even-great team I've ever seen. On the Warriors he was still good but a step below. On the Celtics he's a nice and very old vet. It's pretty useless trying to imaging a Dirk in his prime on my team)

What i'd like to see is which ACTUAL TEAM was the best in league history. Who would win a title if the great 2013 Nets, the late 2016 Hornets, the red hot 2008 Raptors, the 2012 Warriors, the 2010 Clippers, the UNBEATEN 2009 Sonics of course, or probably even the 2018 Mavs played each others.

See, Ivan, that's a point where it's me preferring REAL teams over the FICTIONAL CRAP  you're seeking here ...
 :lol2:

i had shaq at its peak of his career
i had TD who was still a monster in my team
Shawn marion also a monster
Shultz following the footsteps of shawn marion ( all league first team and all league first defensive team
Harley Khoury...dont under estimate this guy he has been player of the week 6 times.. and has 14 triple double

i got 2 A+ defender i forgot if TD was an A+ defender or an A defender...shaq and khoury were A defender... shaq 20+ppg, TD 20+ppg, Marion 20+ppg shultz 20+ppg and khoury has averaged 19ppg

Kmart? No. He has Amare.

Ok, you get a consolidation (whatever that word is spelled) price, extra 20$ for a second place.

most likely it's dirty money he's trying to wash clean, probably from some sort of illegal betting or so ...

I am surprised with the little reaction to the Clippers 5. Just to remember everyone... those guys together were a dynasty for about 10 seasons. In that period of time were always in the top teams of the league!

But I agree that some other teams had great starting fives as well. :)

SHit, i forgot about this.

Ok, the Grand Jury decided that the best starting five is Phoenix Suns (tough call between him and the Hornets) and SunsGM gets 50 points!

Commish can transfer the money now.

I'm honored that My team won this little "contest" even though there were many teams that had starting 5's that were comprable to the one I was able to amass through our years here together.

as far as i remember the "contest" was about all-time starting fives (who never saw a second together on the court), otherwise there's little doubt you belong ...

Cool... so will it help if I add this past years starting center Desagana Diop? lol   (or maybe he was my staring center?)
