As a new simmer I obviously made a mistake with the max offers on day 1. I entered the years and then hit "max bid". I didn't realize that it changed the number of years.
I read the Pistons and Rockets posts. I also heard from another GM privately. Except for Gary Grant all of the players involved did not have competing bids at the salaries they signed for.
My inclination is to put Grant back into the FA pool and reduce the other players to 1 year contracts. However I have put up a poll to see how others feel about this. I hope that we have enough votes in the next few hours to make a decision.

In reality you would have to put the players who mistakenly got a max contract offer back to FA. Nobody guarantees that a player signing a max offer would sign for a 1yr offer as well on day 1. They might hold out for a bigger fish. And you would give every team which had cap space the opportunity to put the players signed on day 1 also back into the FA pool (so they can preserve cap space for the bigger offers now on day 2)
For all the other signings, I wouldn't change anything.
Starting over the whole FA period would be the worst decision, since everyone basically put his cards on the table and it would hurt basically every team.
But if the decision is "reduce to 1yr for Grant" I have no problem accepting it (but since I had no cap space to spend initially my voice might not count here)

Going with Grant going to back to FA.
If we restart the FA over again, other teams would already know how much the other GMs offered their FA, if their FA decided to change address.

Don't change all the other signings. Those who got "faulty" contracts, put them back to FA. On 3 of the 4 other players there were no other offers. And 2 of those received $5,400,000 as the "max". On Rex Chapman there were several MLEs but nothing higher. This is why I would only put Grant back in. If we are going to "give every team which had cap space the opportunity to put the players signed on day 1 also back into the FA pool (so they can preserve cap space for the bigger offers now on day 2)" then we might as well start day 1 over again.

Derek, on a related free agency item...some of the players, not all, that were signed on day 1 still show up on the list under GM actions. I ran the FA list update last night and again this morning and those players are still there. The list under "Current FAs" is accurate though. If I did something else wrong please send me an e-mail...enough public embarrassment for 1 day.

I agree with putting Grant back into the FA pool, but I disagree with this part. At most, only the GM with a competing offer for Grant should have the option of putting back the players they signed on Day 1, if they want another crack at Grant.

I was the other GM that put an offer above "MLE" on Grant but the problem with putting him back on the FA market is that I already used more than half of my cap? Do I have a choice to start fresh?

Problem with this is that then it starts a whole cascade of events. I would have to put your FA signings back into the pool and that could impact what happened with others.

i also put in an offer for grant and signed nobody on Day 1, so I feel best option is to make him an FA again.

I have closed the poll. With half of the GMs voting (and I didn't) the choice seems to be to put Grant back in the pool. And since there are 4 or 5 teams with enough cap space for max bids (and a few very close) I am delaying free agency by one day. This will insure that each of those GMs will have a chance to enter bids for Grant if they want.
Sorry for the delay but hopefully things will go smoother as I work out the kinks in running the sims.
