you have just 50GB left? And where you do plan to store your downloads from week 2 ? well, i assume there's no way to ignore the check to complete the installation, so it could either be a wrong patch level of vista, or some other application(s) using too many system ressources at the time of the check. (i googled the problem and it's not documented, yet, so apparently no well known issue)

Used most of my space on dvds, probably will have to talk to a tech support to find out the problem.

try a clean install first - so remove any parts of Verizon software you might still have on the PC - that's not needed anymore of course - even if it#s only from earlier installation attempts - reboot the system and start the installation right after bootup - Turn off wireless and connect to the router via network cable (even when you only want to use wireless later on), and make sure wireless is turned off in Vista (there might even be a switch on the notebook, modern types do provide that) - and if nothing else works, try to (temporarily) deactivate any AntiVirus or Security Suite. First you have no web access yet, and some of these programs simply block traffic oh, and keep us updated ...

I'm afraid to do a clean installation of vista, it might mess up my laptop and I'm not that good @ it. I don't have any verizon software on my laptop, I just test the system requirement test on their site.

NO, DO NOT (by any means) INSTALL VISTA !!!
I mean a "clean" installation with no other programs running (in the background), so maybe you have to deactivate some Autostart programs (i think the command "msconfig" still works in Vista, let's you temporarily disable the Autostart programs)
And how in the world do you test AT THEIR SITE when you try to get Broadband Internet running ??? You HAVE web access ? Probably over a dial up line? Get that down, just install from CD (or download the install files and run the installation offline)

ah it's only that online test causing you headaches ? Ignore it if you know you by far exceed their requirements.
(i didn't want to install the ActiveX Security Warning, so the test didn't produce a result for me)

I cannot ignore it, don't want to order it and it doesn't work on my laptop. Have to sign a one year agreement to the deal and a $62 cancellation fee.

then it's a good idea you had called the support desk there. (and whatever they tell you, let them get it to you by mail, so you have it documented)

There's no such thing as something not "working" for an internet connection. That's the entire point of the OSI model, of the differentiation between the role of ethernet, tcp and the purpose of standards. If I wanted to run an old version of BeOS, I should be able to. At worst, you may have to get a router to sit behind the wireless modem. But there's no way anything that has a tcp stack shouldn't be able to use Verizon. This is probably just the requirements for the cd of crap they want to send with you as well.
