Now this was a topic brought up in a tarde thread.

The real NBA has a 60 days trade rule, as does this league.
The real NBA lasts for 365 (or 366) every year.

This sim realistically only has 120 days in the calendar.  The way it is currently set up, only the sim days exist as regular days.

Would it be possible to allow the draft, free agency, and TC to actually take up time, when it comes to the 60 day rule?
This would help eliminate the need to go around the rule, and make it more like the NBA.

Just a point for some discussion...

Those do take up time and are counted towards the 60 days.

Really?  I did not know that.  Could anyone who knows the times those are worth post them?  That would mean I have players that I can trade that I thought I could not...

According to the transactions page, the draft, free agency, and TC all take place within 15 days...  And that is where it is awkward....
A 60 days rule in a 185 day year is what the sim has.
A 60 days rule in a 365 day year is what the NBA has.

I believe in the 60 day rule, especially during the season.  But if TC, FA, and the draft could count for more time, I think that might be good.

Even in the regualr season 60 days is a long time.  That is equal to six sims or half the season.  In the NBA you don't have to wait half a season to trade a player.  If we could adjust it down to 40 days then I think it would be better.

Also, do the different portions of the offseason have different time periods attached to them?  For example, there was the resigning your own guys period, then the draft, then free agency (days 1-5).  Are each of these assigned a different time/day for trading purposes?

I just ran through and tested various players acquired on these dates.  Here's how the program does it.

Players acquired on: Day 170 (draft)
Can be traded on day: Day 31

Acquired on: Day 180 (after draft, before FA)
Traded on: Day 41

Acquired on: Day 181 (FA day 1)
Traded on: Day 41

Acquired on: Day 182-185 (FA day 2-5)
Traded on: Day 51

Acquired on: Day 1-60 of the season
Traded on: Add 60 days to when signed.

------------------------

So it looks like the program adds 15 days at the beginning of the season.

That's how the 60 schedule will stand.  I will not shorten it.  We've already got various ways of moving around the 60 day rule, lessening the impact it has.  I will not lessen its impact any more.  In fact if I do anything it's to strengthen its impact.  There needs to be a consequence for trades being made.  You shouldn't be able to repair mistakes instantaneously.  You should put thought into all transactions.

Look on the transactions page.  It has day #'s attached to them.

Guys given extensions before the draft could actually be traded the following day, since they always had contracts.

Thanks Dabods, that list comes in handy, and gives me better idea as to when players can be traded.
Just a point for discussion, none of us want to make your job any harder...

I agree that the list is invaluable.  It changes the perception that all those players had to wait until day 60.

Do you guys realize that the rules page for this league is now 12 pages long?

and I probably have a good 10 more pages that I want to add to it.

Unreal.  I feel like I'm writing application documentation again Smile
