Suns Trade:
Sidney Green
2027 Kings 1st
2028 Suns 1st

Hawks Trade:
Ralph Sampson

I accept, kind of contradicting the Bird trade to compete now, but IMO Green is more suited to the personnel I have now than Ralph is.  Should be an interesting season in Phoenix.

nice deal for the Suns.

They now got rid of their weak part last season and added a 5th guy capeable of scoring 20ppg. The offensive game will be awesome with Sampson joining Milner, Mitch, LaFrentz and Tobey, so they look like the team to beat now.

I don't think they will have more than a 1-2yr window of opportunity before Milner retires, Tobey declines, and Sampson's ratings hit rock bottom (he's the new Oscar Ferry, we know that. -4 so far and counting), but that should be a fun ride.
 Cheers

Not sure what the Hawks were thinking, first trading for Larry to win now (what else you do with a 33yr old??), then replacing a (still) great part of the twin towers - former #1 pick of course - with a role player (*), just to get a potential lottery pick ? Makes no sense. The rest of the team (MJax, Rice, Green) is way too weak to give hakeem/larry a true chance to compete. So instead of competing for a title with 3 top big men they now try to make the playoffs. Ouch ...

(*) for me, Green is a 27yr old project (9/10 on 41% with mediocre blocks and decent defense) on a max contract

I agree with you Celtics on some points but disagree on others.  Yea Green didn't shoot well last season and only scored 9/10 but there's no way he can score more than that.  He showed he can score and rebound when he was on his first stint with Atlanta.  I think your underestimating Green and overestimating Ralph.  I gave it one shot with him and it didn't work out.  I was no better with him than without him.  Maybe it was me and maybe it was Ralph but I don't want to sit here with Ralph in the middle who is declining and isn't strong on defense. I think Green is a good guy to force turnovers and will blend well with Rice, Hakeem and Jackson.  Like most trades involving picks you can't decide who wins the trade until you see what I get with the picks.  And I don't think Larry, Ralph and Hakeem could co-exist, it will be interesting to see if Richmond, Tobey, Milner and Ralph can co-exist.

well, if your main goal was to make the Suns stronger ... mission accomplished. But last I checked you're the HawksGM ...

... and if Ralph really is the cancer responsible for the Pistons AND Hawks not coming close to the playoffs, not even that is guaranteed.

But one thing you got me wrong about: I completely agree with you that Ralph is a bad fit next to Hakeem. To few balls for too many egos. But Green is about the worst replacement. Sure he can deliver more than 9/10/1.4, but he won't shoot a good %, and there are even bigger problems on the other end of the floor. After checking a few dozen boxscores from last season i'm convinced he'll be in big trouble trying to stop the better PFs in the league (let alone C's, no idea why he was played there too). And that means he will take from Hakeem who will have to cover for Green's deficiencies too.

And when you consider his huge salary, this trade is bad for you. In the win column AND in the accounting department.

I truly believe a (cheaper) role playing PF defender AND a big time upgrade in the backcourt would have been much better for you, in the short AND long run. And btw, I know this is not what i had offered, so I'm not proclaiming I had a better deal for you ...
