The Grizzlies agree.

It looks like Williams has reached his prime and will be a 10-12 ppg scorer with a bad fg % but with great defense. But I want a better balance of scoring and defense and i think 2 first rounders will help me find someone or trade for someone. The cash doesnt hurt either.

I can afford to do this as I have three good centers left with Raul Doleac, Steve Johnson, Paul Maggette and a decent backup in Mel Turpin as well as 2 fa's i just signed.

I will really miss his shot blocking ability .

nice. two first rounders for 9/9 and a few blocks. if at least the rebounding numbers were there this would be a good one. so let's hope for the Jazz they'll stay out of the lottery

Can you make trade if you're over the hard cap?

He can because he is taking back less salary.

Shoot, the trade doesnt work because i receive to much salary.

The Grizzlies add Gavin Mitchell to the deal to make it work.

I needed to do something about Rivera's age and keeping a strong core of players, so I pulled out Williams which will help my strongly defensive frontcourt even more. The picks will be low first rounders hopefully, so williams was about the best impact player i could manage to pick up

not sure if i'd call him an "impact player"

he's a good defender, though certainly not a great one, who get's nice blocking numbers and above average rebounding (for a C+ rating), but makes practically no impact on the offensive end. ure he'll make an big upgrade over Rivera, but that tells more about Rivera than Herb.

(btw, I just took a look back at the Grizz 21 game win streak (and 25 of 26), and it's amazing how bad the competition at PF actually was (and it weren't the top opponent teams either). The best opponent he did face was Munson and he didn't exactly stop him)

So at least he can make sure some stiffs didn't post big numbers, and those 3+ blocks won't hurt either.
But from an impact player i'd expect more, especially facing the contenders ...

Well, unsurprisingly I like Herb a lot. So I think this trade is pretty even.

If Herb is as good as you make us believe, this trade is horribly onesided towards the Jazz.
That it's not, is simply a matter of Herb averaging around 8/6 (and 3 blocks) against better opponents.

But that you like Herb is just about as surprising as the next Artest melee, since ouy have a Herb cloe in Roy. Better defender for sure, equalon blocks, but even less effective offensively than Herb. Heck these two guy going at each other 1 on 1 would end in "first basket scored decides ... but maximum 24 minutes" ...

Yeah, I was thinking about saying that I liked it a lot for the Jazz, but I didn't want another beatdown like I got in the Pistons/Hornets trade thread.  Cool

Another thing i told the Jazz earlier was that I don't expect my team to seriously content for a championship this season and not for at least another 2-3 seasons. I wanted to trade Herb now while he is 27 and not 30 when he will lose much of his value.

Probably not surprisingly, I like Herb a lot too.  In fact, if I didn't get Munson, I was going to pursue him.

I think it's probably about fair.  Herb does have his weaknesses, but what he does he does extremely well.  We'll see how the two picks turn out.
