Pistons Agree.

Spurs agree...and complete the reworking of their frontcourt.

I rode Fleisher/Munson for a couple seasons and felt that I wasn't going to get over the top.  Adding Schmaltz & Barkley gives me better offensive and rebounding production with a slightly lower defense.  Barkley also gives me a solid 22 year old PF to go with my 23 year old C (Bowie) and 26 year old backcourt (Lever/Woodson).  So while I think I can still compete for a title this year I also am reloaded for several years to come.  Assuming of course I don't lose any of these guys in FA.

Like it a lot for the Spurs. Not as much of a rape as Bol+$600 for Sampson, but pretty good. Smile

I definitely lost out talent wise, but I'm in a little bit of a "win now" mode, and thinks this makes me better.

I liked Barkley, a lot.  but I never quite found out how to best use him.  Maybe that's my fault, but he also brings certain traits that are hard to build a team around.  He's actually a better perimeter defender than post defender, but moving him to SF takes a dip in his rebounding #'s, one of his better traits.  He had problems holding his own defensively at PF, and didn't have the steals or blocks to overcome that.

In Munson I get a top flight defender, and a better outside shooter, as evidenced by 80+% career ft shooter.  After giving up Bol (and losing his shotblocking), and getting Sampson (and getting his inside scoring), I felt Munson fit my team better.  He won't crowd the paint, will give me the shotblocking I lost in the previous trade (3.6 and 3.7 per game the last two years), and provides equal rebounding as Barkley.  I think he fits in great as a 3rd option.

My top 4 options are now Sampson, Blackman, Munson and Brice, two A- defenders and two A defenders.  This team is clearly in a win now mode (as they are 25, 27, 30 and 34 years old respectively.  I do worry about giving up a 22 year old with B potential for a 30 year old, but I'm sick of building for the future.  I would have liked to have gotten another tradeable commodity back in the deal, but in the end I'm happy with the player and fit I acquired.

Man oh man, Pistons take back a lot of age on this one, I never would have given up on Barkley so soon.

While I agree with Nuggs as a general rule about trading away high calibre youth, I do think that Sampson/Munson makes the Pistons better than Barkley/Bol. PF is a hard position to fill in this league - and Munson is one of the better ones.

I like this deal for both teams.

I think I just would have wanted to see what Barkley and Sampson could do together at least in a preseason first.

I gotta say I strongly agree with a previous conversation where Derek and Hornets spoke of not having 2 20+ scorers in the frontcourt...

I think this move made alot of sense for the Pistons...but honestly I don't know that I'd rather have Sampson/Munson than Bol/Barkley.
