Nets agree.

Obviously a tough decision, big Mike is a helluva player and did New Jersey right. The emergence of the Hornets and the way Sampson/Hinson beat the hell out of Mike and Schmalzy made me do it - length and leaping put my guys in their place. Their youth made me reconsider my chances to win a championship over the next couple of years with my current group - so this deal, I think, keeps the Nets in contention, a tougher matchup, and adds for the future.
Wooten isn't finished developing yet, and provides the shot blocker that I've lacked for years, which I'm very happy to have in my lineup.
Kersey gives me a scoring guard at the two (I suspect he'll be fine there), and a three-guard rotation which will compete with anyones.
Tucker is a nifty expiring which prevents me from exceeding the hard cap next year  Laughing
And the pick helps me keep it going - I hope.

Raps is back with a bit of a vengeance on the trade front, isn't he? Nice dealing with you as always Trev.

I think the Raps won out on this one. I have my doubts as to whether Kersey can put up those kind of numbers on a legit team. Wooten is solid, but one-dimensional and pretty overpriced. Then again, both are very young.

sorry to cause some turmoil on this deal.

I like it for the Raptors who get a complete C like Gminski and can afford to lose Kersey (who's not looking to become a superstar PG).
As for the Nets: Wooten, a role playing big man thats overpaid, and a PG with 2:1 A/TO ratio, not sure if you build around such.

Excellent, my two main rivals commenting on the deal  Cheers

I agree that Mike is the best player, overall, in the deal - but in this case, I don't really care. Mike and Schmalz got abused by more athletic players during the playoffs on defence and offence, and at Schmalz's age, I don't really see that changing. I needed someone to negate that effect, and I'll take Wooten's B+ D and 3bpg over Mike's A- and 1.nothing bpg any day of the week. He's a bit overpaid, but his rebounding rate per min is very good, he shoots decent percentages, and isn't even in his prime. That, plus shotblockers are very hard to acquire in here - I've been trying for two+ seasons, and now have one.

About Kersey: I don't need him to be a 20ppg guy, really, though I hope that he will if I opt to start him. I think that he can continue to improve his performance and ratings. Hell, I might not even need him to be an option. But we outscored our opponents by about 12ppg last year, and I anticipate that Kersey/Wooten will give me what Bradley/Gminski did on both ends of the floor, so I don't expect too much change on the point differential front - save for what I think will be a better overall defensive team considering the benefits of improved shotblocking.

Kersey provides a better balanced scoring option for my backcourt (shoots good percentages) and is a better backup 1 than Gola was. I think his TO's come down sharply if I play him at the 2, where I plan to play him primarily. *Obviously, Tom, I don't need him to be a premier PG with the league's MVP starting for me  Thumbs Up

In any event, I was staring up at the Hornets with few options to get better over the long-term (no nice picks, only moderately good youth) so I wanted to change that outlook (and who knows, FA in SSBA is tough and the track record for draft picks isn't a consistent predictor for success, so maybe that Raps pick will be a lotto one). I expect both young guys to improve. And, no, I don't know how Kersey will handle a bigger role on a better team - it's unproven you're right, Hornets - but it's not proven that he can't either. Nor is my team's success really reliant on it. I felt a need to think outside the box and protect my future abit. In the end, I think I've done that.

I think this deal, coupled with the Hubbard trade, makes my team more versatile, and has more legitimate scoring options which makes me better able to match up with more teams.

Oh yeah, and you're both going down  Moon

I told Nets how much I didnt like this deal for him over MSN last week. My stance hasnt changed. I believe Trev got a complete steal here and Nets took a step back. You just dont mess with a 60+ win team.

It wasn't exactly a no-brainer for the Raps. As I told NetsGM, if I had been asked to add anything more to the deal, I would likely have backed up. I think Wooten needs to be looked at as the player he was in 2020 as a 22 year old putting up amazing numbers. I think he is going to be at least 10/10/3 for years and years to come. I do agree that he is overpaid - he offered me a similar contract in the extension period and I didn't think twice to decline.

As for Kersey - It's easy to think that his numbers are grossly inflated...but if you look at his percentages over his career he shoots the ball very, very well. He does turn the ball over a little too much, and I expect a move to SG will have him turning the ball over a comparable amount when considered he won't touch it near as much. I expect that if a PG turns the ball over ever 10th time he handles it, so will a SG.

Tossing Tucker into the deal frees up a little more cap space for me, which I will def need. Losing the pick kind of hurts to as the 2024 draft will be a good one at the top.

As for the current state of the franchise: We have an all-star front court. I expect 22/11 + from both players, which will be very hard to stop. Outside of that, we are in trouble. Either Gola or Conner needs to step it up and become a legit starter in this TC, or we will be hovering around the lottery again next year - maybe with 2 picks there, I don't know what to expect from the Sonics (average age of their starters - 33.2).

I'm back, ladies.

Yes but it certainly isnt Mike who's age is the concern.

I know, every GM in the division is active, and every GM in the division seems to have a clue about how to win.  It is insane, I think we should re-align divisions, so I can make the playoffs Wink

I am certain that Mike got his skirt handed to him in the playoffs against athletic bigs.
