Not looking for anything specific, but I would like to lock down a future first for this pick.

If interested, let me know.

Please, explain to me why anyone would trade a future first for a second round pick that has almost no value. Because I don't understand why anyone would do that. But that may be because I am a rookie in this game.

The reason is usually that when you get to the end of the 1st round, you may see a player that youre interested in, but you dont think he'll last into the second round, so you'd give a future first to make sure you get your player.

Ok I understand. But still I don't think anyone would do that. Chances are way big that the future first will have more value than this pick. Right?

I really have nobody in particular that I am targeting with the pick.  If there is somebody there, and a GM wants that guy, a deal can be done.

Also, if you pick up a guy on potential alone, it may be better to give him a first round salary than a second round salary.

(If he is good, he will walk after two years under a second round salary structure with no bird rights)

Or, you can invest a little more into a player, and have him locked up for four years.

It's all up to the GM.
