Say you have 11 million in cap space. You can't do a trade where you send out 5 mil in salary and take back 15 mil?

I'm almost positive the answer is no.

However, I have been known to be wrong.

I think your wrong.

You just need enough cap space to absorb the difference... between 5 and 15 million, need atleast 10 million in cap space...

Anyways, any interest in Rashard Lewis???  if so, send me a pm...

Direct form the Rules page...
Trade Rules [return to top]

Matching Salary:
When trading players, unless you are under the salary cap, the total salary you receive (this years salary, the length of the contract has no relevance) must be within 15% of the salary you send. If you are under the cap, you need to have enough salary to be able to "absord" the difference between the amount you receive and the amount you send. Draft picks have no value.

Yes.  You absorb the difference of the contracts you send and the contracts you receive.

What RapsGM is getting confused about is you can't be within 15% of the contracts when using salary cap space, you have to be able to absord the entire difference.

So you have to be withing 15%, or you can't do it?

No, you have to have enough cap room to absorb the ENTIRE difference.  Not just to get within 15%.
