Both the Heat and Magic are over the hard cap.  Neither team will be allowed to make a deal unless it helps reduced salary (outside of signing FA's).

ok, checking the rules this means this:

The HEAT went over the hard cap signing Nick Abdur Rahim on day 181. So the later FA signings of Duncan and Gerstl would have to be voided, both should have moved back to FA. The Heat lose their next first round pick.

The MAGIC went over on day 181 with their first signing of Richard Gaylor. Problem is, later in FA they signed Rouseau (10.3m), Myers (1.2m), Geiger (550k), Trevor Wells (4.5m), Watts (540k), and McPhereson (456k), who all should not have been allowed and cut back to FA. On the other hand, the Greiner/Profit deal reduces salaries for the Magic, thus should be allowed. Same for the Jefferson/Gaylor trade. And of course the Magic lose their 2021 1st.

Will be interesting to see how the Hawks rule on this. And if there are any additional penalties for all the violations here. Maybe the Magic lose 10 wins or lots of cash, who knows.

We'll keep watching ...

i am sure there won´t be penalties during the season. Since we all knew the rules and commish allowed it till now. As no one else posted this before i guess no one really was concerned about that bending the rules.

I would doubt so.  IMO you cannot retroactively enforce penalties for signings you missed.  it's the commish's job to find hard cap violators.  If he misses them and bids are still entered, that's his fault.

Now, conversely, HeatGM can't go "I didn't know I was over the hard cap, so I should be able to get out of those contracts".  It's his job to know his cap situation, so he shouldn't get a free pass.  But it's the commish's job to enforce not being able to sign people.  Retroactively removing players would be a mistake IMO.

No.  People have been punished for hard cap violations before.  This was just missed until now.

don't get me wrong, i'm not CALLING for penalties, i'm just finding it curious nobody recognised the violations so far. i'm a no-nonsense GM in my league, but that doesn't mean it can't be completely different here, whatever the commish calls for.

so maybe the Manila connection just lucked out here ...

completely agree here, it would make the whole season questionable.

Whats your penalty? In my league, the penalty is your top scorer goes to waivers, where priority is set based on worst record to best. Has only happened once in 7 seasons so far though, we have a hard cap of 90mil, regular cap of 48.

Losing your top player is a bit too much.

I am not going to retroactively enforce this rule.  It was my mistake for not catching this.  I will not penalize or help depending on how you look at it, either team.

But the restrictions on being over the cap (both draft pick and not being able to add salary) are still in effect?

yes, they can add minimum's but I will be taking away both the Heat and Magic's 1st round picks in the upcoming draft.
