this is so sick.

and the reason stuff like only happens in the US is that stuff like that CAN only happen in the US.
another sad sad day in the long history of sad sad days of privately owned firearms.

it's just awful, and I would be lying if it doesn't scare me a little bit.

Obviously things are not the same in Canada, but all it takes is 1 person to make this happen...next time I'm on campus I will certainly have the thoughts of the VTech shootings in my head.

You realize that there are other countries (i.e. canada) that allow privately owned firearms, right?

Not to mention Finland has more guns per-capita than the US.

Gun control is just one drop in the sea. There are so many factors in US that leads to such horrible things.

.. where you can basically buy a firearm at the grocery shop too like in Virginia ?

From whats reported through CNN it takes all of 30min to buy a gun in VA.
And before I hear complaints again, I know that's not the main reason for shootings to happen, but when i see how next to impossible it is for the average people to get a gun in most of Europe, it at least plays a role. Nobody here would PLAN such an incident that easily.

And Finland has the best rated education system in the world too, and the highest suicide rate ...

@Ivan:
one BIG drop in a tiny ocean.
"if it's already waiting in my drawer, why not use it if i'm dead pissed"

But ok, it's your country, your law system, and i'm sure firearms prevent a lot more bad things than they make possible ...

that's not true at all.  It typically takes 6 months to get a registered gun.  Furthermore, the guy who committed the shooting was not a US citizen, and could not have legally obtained a gun.

Now, if you want to argue that it's too easy to illegally get a gun in the US, I'd agree.  But this is not a problem solely in the US.  It's estimated nearly half of all guns in Canada are unregistered as well.

well, if i remember the initial sequence from "Bowling for Columbine" thats not exactly the case, but you got the point. When it's easy to get them legal it's easier to get them illegal too, since there's a far broader "market".

shootings happen here too, i remeber on kid in germany (Erfurt) and even one here in Austria killing a teacher 10 years ago (with Daddy's legal hunting gun). And I believe that kid might not have done anything without access to a gun. Shooting is so much easier to kill someone than use a knife or such.

Guns ARE a problem, everywhere.
And parents owning one, too.

I've never seen a gun store in my country in my life. I'm not sure is there even a one.

Michael Moore is NOT a documentarian.  He spins everything.  Even when I agree with his messages, I disagree with how he does his movies.  he's a master film editor.  But his pieces are not anything close to truth.  It's propoganda.

Besides, Columbine was nearly a decade ago at this point.  Laws have changed over that time.

Yeah, i like Moore's point and i agree with him in general. But he's the great manipulator as well. But i can't hold that against him cause i know his intentions are good.

His intentions are to make as much money as possible.  He picks the fights that will create the biggest stir and get the most people talking.  He's not making documentaries to help poor people in zimbabwe.  He's making documentaries that will get the most people at the box office.

Gun control is not ANYWHERE close to the same problem here in Canada as it is in the States. NO WHERE close. It can't be compared...it's like comparing the NBA to the WNBA in terms of watchability.

And to be perfectly frank, the States is the REASON that gun control is a problem here. Where do you think the guns are coming from?

Well, i'd disagree on that. I belive he's good hearted guy. If he's able to make some cash while making his point, so be it.

I think hes a little from column A, a little from column B.

I think he truly believes what he is documenting about, but there is no doubt he intentionally picks bigger fights because he knows its bigger profits.
