wow, Yao get's a REAL point for a change. Nice trade for the Sonics, who give up a little used big man (no wonder, combine B- reb and def with C pot and you know he has a long way to go) and some washed up replacement plus expirings for a top PG.
And for the Spurs, I don'T get this trade: The give up a very good PG for a downgrade in production with a worse contract, and only get a questionable big man in Pollard to show for. Sylvester I guess they had no intentions of resigning and his trade value is next to zero (although i still see him as a valueable backup).
Is this rebuilding? At an 18-12 record ??? By making the salary situation worse ?????
Puzzeling ...

I guess you could say that I am rebuilding on the fly. Uner has been one of the top PGs for the past decade but couldn't get the team over the hump. Despite solid records for the past few seasons I saw the team not being strong enough to get a title. And Eddie needs to be a #1 or 2 option to be most effective. I think paired with Yao he could lead the Sonics back to the WCF if not the Finals.
I decided this year to move my offense towards the younger guys (Mitchell & Gragg). Large expiring contracts have lost their luster in this league...just look at all the ones available. I have tried for a while to move some of my better vets...Jefferson, Swift, Uner...and
get picks in return. But everyone wants to hold onto their picks for the most part and didn't see my guys as the "missing piece".
I now have 3 young C/PF that have decent ratings and hopefully can improve. And I still have solid vets in Jefferson & Stocker (overpaid but still a solid player). Potential is often overrated here as many C & D potentials continue to develop through age 30. Also I have had a player with A potential that never improved in 6-7 years (Mikan). I also have some good young prospects (as well as young starters) at the swing spots. I think that this team is still a playoff team. But even if I slip into the lottery I have my pick this year and that isn't so bad.
As far as future salaries...once (if?) I buy out the 2nd year of English's contract then I actually have $5.5 mil less committed to next year's salaries. In 2 years I have committed approx $10 mil more than before but it is for two 24 year old big men.

BTW this deal has to wait until day 51 (sim 6) because of trade restrictions on English who was signed on day 182.

doesn't work now, Spurs need to make a cut since they have a full roster of 15 already.
