He should put up 24/12/3 right off the bat.

How you know that?

Guess based on similar players.

Look at what Yao puts up.  But then realize he's not getting as many touches (peja) as Tanner will, and doesn't have as many rebounding or block opportunities as Tanner will (Yao has Dikembe and Diop, who both average 9 boards and 2 blocks/game).

It might be a little overinflated, but I would expect no less than 22/11/2.

I think one thing not to overlook in Tanner is C+ outside scoring.  Most of the top post players in the league have a C- or worse outside scoring rating.  2 level jumps is significant.  Not only does it mean that if he has a 10-15 foot jumper it's virtually unblockable, but his free throw shooting should be in the 73-78% range, rather than the 60-70 range.

Check out some of the big men's ft%
D Outside:
Shaq - 57.7% ft
Ben Wallace - 53.7%
Okafor - 61.7%

D+:
Tim Duncan - 65.9%
Samuel Dalembert - 66.4%
Chris Andersen - 64.6%

C-:
Marcus Camby - 70%
Dampier - 65.3%
Pau Gasol - 69.4%
Theo Ratlif - 70.4%
Ilgauskas - 71.1%
Stromile Swift - 66.6% (scary)
KMart - 68.4%

C:
KG - 74.4%
Yao Ming - 77.9%
Troy Murphy - 72.7%

B+:
Dirk - 78.4%

Obviously, there are exceptions.  But it seems to me that there is a pretty strong correlation that outside shooting effects ft%.  And that can really add up in a game.  Okafor went to the line over 8 times/game.  If he hits at 75% his average would have gone up a point per game.

There are only 10 pf's or c's (and most of them don't get time) in the entire league that have a C+ or higher outside ratings.

Ahh, but the thing is, there is a good chance that Pettit will be in the McGrady/Kobe class in this game...  He is most of the way there already.

This could be a Jordanesque draft, if Houbreg's potential is overrated...
But you always pick the size...

McGrady or Yao (who is similar to Tanner), who would you prefer?

The C+ rating for Houbregs also means that he'll be shooting some threes, and probably at a decent percentage.

In this sim or in real life?

Yao's overrated in real life.  Still a good player, but overrated.  There you take tmac.

In this sim?  Yao.  Just look at how far the Rockets and Kings went, respectively.  And the Rockets had Dikembe Mutombo, Charlie Ward and Donta Smith starting for them.

I like Pettit.   But this isn't Sam Bowie getting drafted ahead of him.  Tanner's not going to average 10.9 and 7.5 for his career like Bowie.  I would bet his career averages are closer to Hakeem's.  Plus he has half a foot on Hakeem.

Pettit needs his defense to improve 2-3 ratings classes before he can be talked about in the McGrady/Kobe/LeBron category of sg's.  And he'll always be undersized.

Ellis is ready to be a star. So is cunningham.

Anyone with a top5 pick should expect a star.

In the sim, of course...
It's not Bowie vs Jordan, but both Pettit and Houbreg have the potential to be the best players in the league in 2-3 years...

And I wonder if a position change for Pettit to PG would improve that defensive rating...

I will give you Ellis (he is 3rd on my board, with Griffin right behind him), but Cunningham is weak defensively.  It will take some improvement before he becomes a star....

Well, I've convinced myself to try to not talk about the draft beforehand.  I made an exception on Tanner because he should be so blatantly obvious Wink

Lol...
Considering your trading block that talked about Boozer,  I figured both your 1st and 2nd choices were pretty obvious.

I am well removed form the lottery, so I am not giving anything away by talking about those lottery bound players.  The only advantage of that.. lol

I'm actually not 100% sure on who I'd take second, and after 2nd thought getting the third pick probably wouldn't be as easy as I once thought.
