the money amount is actually $50 he said I'd get 40 once the offseason comes so as long as that's clear, I agree.

I was getting rid of Drew after this year now since I have Theus/Toney/Vandeweghe. So this trade is basically my 2020 1st round pick for Sura, 2 2nd rounders and $50 from my perspective. With Toney and Dial leading the way, I should have a low pick in 2020 so I felt that it's time I start filling the holes in my roster with some proven veterans who can give me some good years. With Sura's A- defense and some of his past numbers, I think I found a quality point guard that's worth a 1st round pick and will at least be a sure backup for the following two years. The extra money will help to make sure i get the most out of my picks and resignings in the next couple of years as I prepare for serious playoff contention. A one-time 40 point scorer, Sura may be a key component to putting together a little run this year. I wanted to get at least something for Drew's talent since i wasn't really using him this year and i was just going to drop him at the year's end. I felt I managed well given the little response I had with him on the block.

very good trade for the Magic, who get rid of a backup on a pretty expensive contract (one they can easily replace with Butler, Ward or just about anyone else) for an expiring ... and somehow manage to pick up a first on top.

and sorry if that sounds harsh, but for the Jazz this is an ugly deal. Probably even worse.

They had 16mio cap space for the best ever free agent class coming up. Nobody can resign anybody without hard cam remifications, so for that cash they could have picked up two huge stars, especially since they have practically nobody to resign (Mikael they could have gotten back for 5m on day 3 or 4).

and somehow they manage to give away a 1st in the process.

don't really think the 1st would be good at all. its basically a risky deal for me. hes got nice young talents already. and in 2-3 years' time, he could easily have one of the youngest team to beat especially in the weak west.

what does that have to do with him wasting close to 7m cap space and a pick for a backup when the market offers far superior players for less money this coming FA ?

he lost an asset (no matter how good this pick will turn out to be) and he'll take longer now to get good, that's all.

with three first rounders in the next two years, I had extra leeway to get rid of an otherwise low pick and I'll be able to clear out more cap when his contract is done at a time when i will need the cap relief more. Rookies don't perform well on the road nor do they perform well during the playoffs, this saves me from wasting higher picks on a pg, while I wait for Gresham to develop into a fulltime starter.
