I have not seen ONE title team which made it possible through the draft.

(hint, it starts with a N and won multiple titles)

He drafted ONE player and signed ONE free agent.  Everyone else who has tried to build through multiple draft picks has not succeeded so far.  Not to say you won't but that chances are slim.

BTW the player drafted was fictional.   Laughing

Just to make it clear. I'm not planning to build solely through draft. I've never said that. My MAIN, and ABSOLUTE goal is to get TWO franchise players on rookie contracts. One i already have in Magic and i hope with the # of picks i have one of them will turn into that second fiddle. Will it going to be Tom Chambers, Buck Williams, Wilkins or whoever, it's irelevant. But as i said, Magic + another great young stud (preferably inside) would be a 80% of the job done. After that, i'll use my cap to sign some defensive minded and role type players.

I know that I for one am gonna give this plan a shot in this league with McHale, Cho, Magliore, Payton, Macy and whoever I can nab this year - that's three long term starters at least (with good potential) in two years and another probable lotto pick this year. Not that I won't augment this with free agency and trading, but they'll be the core of my team for a long, long time. I have a sim history of (having an itchy trigger finger when it comes to) trading off my best draft picks before they bloom, but I've so far resisted this trend here.  Cheers Kudos to Kings if he can pull it off as well. BTW, kings....knowing your affinity for *real* players, I have one for you if you're willing to move your pick this year. You get one hall of fame PG and one hall of fame SG all in one fell swoop  Laughing

and that's the big misconception here.

Kings were never interested in the outlined Nets way of rebuilding. This is a good way, imo, but it takes time and some luck .. and won't guarantee a title, because it's hardly superstars you build around here. But you give young guys with pot time to develop and actually build a team over time.

No, completely contrary to this long-term plan the Kings ONLY want superstar rookies and fill the rest of the rosters with good but old veterans and defensive-minded role players. Develop rookies? No way. Success (aka title) has to come within a season or two. And unless that is realistically possible they suck as badly as possible. Build a team over time? Heck no, try to get two superstars in the draft and sign players for a contender right away.

And that's exactly what i believe is the wrong way.

My parents would like to know the answer to that question as well.

There are some things to be made before that. Don't want my wife to make more money then me. That's no good.

Would you go as far as calling this whole "rebuilding through the draft" experiement a failure ?

We're in what, season 3 now, and this is a SIM league. Heck, even Jerry Krause/Pax did make it back to respectability in 5 seasons, so what's your opinion on this ?

Off course not.

No panic whatsoever. I have 3 very good, young prospects on rookie contracts, lots of cap and what i belive a good pick next year. I could wait some more. Fortunately, sim seasons are alot shorter then the real one.
