So how do potentials work, does a guy like Dr J automatically have great potential since his ratings are a bit low, or is it more random?
This confusion is the exact reason I put this off for so long.
http://ssba.phillyarena.net/files/rules.htm#draft_filescreatedhese players will be similar to their real life counterparts in both physical size (Magic being a tall point guard) and gameplay style (i.e. Larry Bird a better shooter than slasher, Charles Barkley being a better scorer and rebounder than defender). These files will not, however, be the same in terms of either potential or scope. I.e. Barkley once again will be a better rebounder than defender, but he may not be a great rebounder and scorer. He may be a 6th man type caliber player). You cannot use how one turned out in real life to predict how they will do in SSBA.
Who they were in real life has no bearing on:
1) How good/bad they will be
2) Their potential to improve
It will have bearing on:
1) Their physical attributes (size, weight, position)
2) Their strenghs/weaknesses (being a better scorer than defender, better 3 pt shooter than slasher, rebounder than defender, etc)
Potential is random. Dr. J could turn out to be Craig Smith.
