Starting in 2015:
- $110 million
Starting in 2018:
2xCap ($87,600,000)

Penalty for going over:
Any time you acquire a player(s) (through draft, FA, or trade) that takes you over the hard cap, you lose your next available first round draft pick.  This is a penalty for going over the cap.  If you able to get under cap before the end of the current season, you will not have to forfeit the pick.  You cannot, however, trade your next draft pick while over the cap.  If you do forfeit the pick, the pick will be CPU selected, then after the draft the player will be cut from your roster.

You cannot make any moves while over the cap, unless that move results in a decrease in your team salary.  The only moves that can add salary are the signing of minimum players prior to sim 1 that are needed only to give you 12 men on your roster.

Nobody should have a hard time getting under $110 million.  You have just about 4 years to do so, and currently only the Hornets, Nets, Pacers, Mavericks are over that limit for this year, with nobody being over it for 2015.
- The Nets have 53.1 million in salary for 2015
- The Hornets have 14 million
- The Pacers have 89.6 million
- The Mavs have 31.8 million

Reasoning:
Quote
2012 182 Pistons Sign PG Stephon Marbury for $13,000,000 over one year.
2012 182 Raptors Sign SG Micah Hunter for $10,950,000 over one year.
2012 182 Magic Sign C Loren Woods for $10,000,000 over one year.
2012 182 Magic Sign SF Troy Murphy for $11,000,000 over one year.

There's no incentive not to give even a mediocre guy you have bird rights to a huge deal for one season.  It limits the effectiveness of FA.

Barring a huge league-wide protest, this is the new rule.  I think it's necessary to not only lose a pick, but also to limit your ability to make transactions (as it won't matter to someone like the Hornets or Pacers or Nets to lose the 28th pick in the draft).

There are currently 4 contracts in the league that are signed through 2018, TMac, Randolph, Chase Russell, and Patrick Gatling.  I will give those teams the option of removing that last year if they chose to do so, since it was my fault for not getting this done before FA this year.

wonderful decision bods, this is why you gotta love the ssba. Things keep happening to make the league more competitive and more of a challenge.  I think this will be a great addition to the league.

Just wondering, but is it not a smart move to lock-up my starting PG for 1 more year until I can fully rebuild???  It's not like I increased his salary(it actually decreased by $2 million)...  Not trying to start an argument, just defending my move...  Also, a salary cap would be a good addition to the league...

As i said, i don't like it and i don't agree. I won't repeat my arguments. This makes things even more complicated. But off course, if everyone agrees i have no problem with it.

Of course it would.  But that's exactly my point.  It was an easy decision for you because there's no consequences.

Micah Hunter gets signed for a 1 year max deal.  Raptors response: "Happy enough to get a big expiring contract.".

Christ, I signed Aaron Williams for 10 million/year like 3 straight offseasons.  Why?  Might need that expiring contract, no reason not to sign him to 1 year deals.

You signed Mike Miller for 12 million/year.  Think he even plays 12 minutes/game?

You just said yourself:
"$85,000,000 in expiring contracts available!!!"

Not only does it devalue free agency, but it devalues expiring contracts.

Kings: No offense, but what are the odds you'll even be here in 6 SSBA seasons?  in 2017 people who were rookies when this league began will be 12 year vets, there will be practically noone left from real NBA.  You've made your intentions quite clear.

I like the idea...IMO it will make max contracts more valuable.  Instead of going to any player that a GM wants to retain the max will be reserved for franchise type players.  Especially if in year 5 or 6 of the contract they use up 20+% of the hard cap.  I also think that due to raises without a corresponding increase in cap space we will see shorter contracts.

Perfect example was this year with Chase Russell.  I don't think he is worth a max contract (not a franchise type player) but I didn't want to lose him without compensation.  But I didn't feel I could offer him a 4-5 year contract starting around $8 mil because of 3 teams having that much cap space.  So I just offered him the max salary with max increases for max years.

BTW bods I'll take you up on the amnesty offer.  Please delete Russell's 2018 salary.

I know I'm probably way in the minority here, but I'd actually prefer that the dates be earlier.  Other than that, I wholeheartedly agree with the move.

I just love the fact that everyone fully expects the league to reach 2018 and beyond.

So do I.  But people made signings before this was made, so it's tough.
