wow, nice pickup by the Nets.

They got an automatic 10/10 guy for practically nothing. Sure, Brad is nice insurance and the Nets will sorely miss him once Sammy takes his yearly injury break, but Drew could provide (at least at PF) what the aging Miller did and is 5 years younger.

Snow was practically useless with the draft of Lincoln.

I'm not sure why the Cavs did it.
Salary relief? You gotta be kiddin me, i dont give a guy as good as Gooden for expirings without even taking a pick back, ANY pick. They have ZERO use for Snow with 4 PGs already on their roster and i doubt a 33yr old backup C is in their longterm plans.

So why not get some young guys, talents at least, if they are tired of even more picks (after this years 7pick-debacle) ? Just to help the runaway best team in the league getting even better ... ?

Having both Sammy and Emeka as better players at C (at least defense wise), plus Lo and Darko on the bench, I felt I had the flexibility of taking the young player.  I'll get a few more years out of Gooden, and he can play 3 positions, including emergency C minutes.  Now I've got some redundancy with him and the recently signed Jamison, but having too much depth isn't something I'm worried about.

Funny that I ended up with Drew after being so shocked at the contract though Wink  But I'm gonna be up at the top of payroll anyway with the extensions of Sammy and Emeka.

I think Cavs wanted to clear some cap and yet, stay competive. And this trade is giving him just that.

Guess they wanna go with Tsakalidis/Strait up front and Brad Miller can back those up. Could work.

But still, Gooden is superior to Miller and much younger, so why not wait till later in the season and get good return for the future. Miller is that definitely not.

Great trade for the Nets, and not very good for the Cavs.

It's likely Gooden will put up similar numbers to Miller in a back-up roll, and he is 5 years younger.
Bailey Snow is a back-up PG...  and an average one, imo.

Clearly in the Nets favor, and devastating to the hopes that the Nets will start to age soon, and become beatable.

It's now two seasons since you had Brad and I completely agree he was better then. But the ravages of time wore him down and I don't see him as more than a part-time starter anymore.

I agree with you that the Cavs can probably stay competitive IF (big IF) Everette is everything they hope for, but you can't tell me that they got BETTER doing this trade. IMO they got a bit worse and a lot older ...

And Tsakilidas had arguably his most effective year last year.
Gooden as a back-up to Tsakiladas and Strait (as well as Carter at Sf), imo, is pretty decent....
Better then the Miller/Tsakilidas and Strait/Holton combo that is liekly to be played.

No i'm not. Belive me, i know what i'm talking about. I had both of them on my team. Brad Miller was always in 15/10 territory. SOmething that Gooden could only dream of. And don't look at ratings, Gooden is probably biggets underachiever in whole league. Heck, even last year, Miller was putting almost same numbers as Gooden as a BACKUP + he was shooting 44% from the floor compared to Gooden's lousy 39.

Gooden was a back-up last year, most of the year as well...  Gooden can also back-up 3 positions, while Miller only two.

BTW, in 2008 and 2009...  Gooden was a 13-10 player.  He was grabbing 9-10 rebounds as a SF for the Kings, which is incredible.

And he is 5 years younger...  This trade does not allow the Cavs to beat the Nets (or the Pacers, for that matter), and it ages them.

Cavs did it for financial reasons. He's probably collecting some money for FA and at the same time not hurting his winning ratio. Not for the sake of chalenging Nets or Pacers.

Smart move IMO.
