The reasoning for the Raptors should be clear - I trade 2 players who are out of my rotation for a young, good scoring SF with potential.
Dickau has the ability to turn into something nice, and he gives me more options for a rotation. As it looks now, I will have:
Yao/Sanders Garcia/Del Negro Dicaku/Prince Pietrus/Hunter Max/Arbogast
Of course, things could change if I am able to unload one of my many swingmen for a starting PF.
But I like this deal for me, and I like Dicaku. I see him as a 3rd option, 13ppg scorer, as is, with the potential to get better.

I did not want to give Dickau big money. However, I thought that somebody would outbid me, so I gave him the money when the Raps asked about his availability.
Out of this deal, I get a future first, a very good backup guard, and a very good backup big man while maintaining my cap flexibility for the next few years.
I beleive that my team will still perform well and finish deep into the playoffs, even with the loss of Dickau.

Damn, if Dickau turns out to be a player this could really come back to hurt the Sonics. Basically they gave him up for a mid to late 1st rounder. Still I understand the risk analysis involved for the Sonics. Maxing out an unproven player is pretty dangerous.

i think it is a great trade for the raptors they only lost backups and a first for a very solid guy at least. why the sonics didn´t ask for some youth is something i don´t understand.

definitely an overreaction by the sonics IMO. I would rather lose completely while having tried to lock him up for a good longterm contract than have traded him away for a late first round pick. I mean, the end result is he still lost Dickau but had no chance of keeping him. I think he over-estimated the market for Dickau.
As it stands you got virtually nothing for Dickau. I don't get the big risk you were taking in trying to lock him up to a reasonable contract.
I should go back and check the next highest offer for Dickau just to torment the Sonics.

Hey Sonics, thanks for killing my season
I just aquired the Raptors draft pick which became useless in an instant now ...
well, not that i look forward to it (it's something i don't wish ANY team) but history shows a big-time injury to Yao can easily get me a lotto pick too here ...

Yeah, there was no way I was not going to do this deal, trading a 34 and 32 year old for a 25 year old with potential.
And I expect the pick to be pretty late, 20+.
However, now I have 5 SFs with the skill/potential to start: JDN, Bass, Prince, Pietrus, Dickau. Someone HAS to need a SF, and be able to trade a PF.
