It was time for Marion to go. He hasn't been able to lead me to a championship and he isn't getting any younger. I get significantly younger in this trade, which was my main objective when I decided to move Marion.
I am under no delusions that Melo will ever be the player that Marion is now. Also, I know that Marion will continue to play at a high level probably for the rest of his career. However, I am looking towards the future, and moving Marion now was a necessity.

I now have some very good players at 25 and under:

Livingston
Carmelo
Sura
Swift
Podkolzine

I think I have a very solid foundation for a great future. I also would like to predict that Livingston scores 20ppg next season.

Wow.

In my opinion you were SO close.  I'm a testiment that someone's time doesn't close.  I could have said after 2 failed finals run that Pettit's time had come to an end.  Luckily I didn't.  I honestly thought coming into our series you were the better team.  I think 22 ppg with "good" (not marion level) defense is about Carmelo's max.  And while you might get 3-4 more years out of Carmelo, I just don't think it's worth it.

Especially since you just traded for Ben Wallace.  You're in a "win for the next 3-4 years" mode.

i think a fair trade. marion will possible not score more than melo could but he should give me a defense and rebound advantage. i hope that a lineup of marion, artest and JO can defend enough for a championship.

melo already proved that he could score in the 30s without JO and maybe ben will be also traded.

Well I kinda like Dench, so I guess that could be seen as a saving grace for the Hornets...But a slight retooling around Marion, Odom and Livingston woud have been option A for me.

how many players do you know who could avg in one sim 30 pts.
melo is one of the better offensive options in SSBA. He improved every year his scoring. I agree he may never reach ratings like marion but he could avg. something like 26 next year with the hornets.

Well, I traded Kmart for Wallace, and Kmart isn't really a spring chicken either.
I think that Melo will up his scoring as the years go by. He has upped his scoring average by 2 in each of the past three years. Saying that he has reached his ceiling scoring-wise may be a bit shortsighted. Pettit is also a good deal younger than Marion, of course I would not give up on such a young player after two unsuccessful runs.

Like I said, I don't think that Melo will ever be the player that Marion is, but he is a very fine young player. He was an all-star just last year.

There is no way you can trade a superstar and have it look like it went in your favor. Marion is a depreciating asset. Selling him now made the most sense 'financially' for me. In another year he might become untradable. Would the Pacers have done the same trade in two years, when Marion is 33?

in two years i would guess no. but i can´t wait two more years since JO is possible now in his best years. so it is now or never.

With this trade i see the Pacers as the frontrunners for title next year. JO - Marion combo is just too good. Just deadly. Great trade.

They might decline due to their age in TC.

Great deal for the Pacers. They replace Melo with better scoring AND top level defense, rebounding. Just plain unbelievable improvement.

But since they sucked big time last year i wait for them to prove something before declaring them contender again (look under  "Kings, 2010" and "Raptors, 1008" for prematurely annuonced title favourites fallen badly)

If i were the hornets i wouldn't have made the deal. A bods said, you can't get any closer and it's not like big decline was in sight. A little bit - and very likely - improvement from Livi, Pavel and Swift would have pushed them over the top imo.
Melo? Fine scorer in the Hoffa mould (including the occasional defense)who did achieve little so far. If Marion wasn't worth more i don't know (but I know, the Q should be "would anyone be willing to GIVE more" ? Well, nobody asked me for a start ...)

Anyway, from the Celtics point i like the deal. I had no chance whatsoever against the Marion-led Hornets and had the Pacer's number recently. So now the Hornets got worse and the Pacers better which should make for a nice 3-team battle for 2nd place in the east.
 Cool
