I personally thought Alpha Centauri was the best of the series.

The summer I graduated college I didn't have to work until august. I played for about 8 hours a day for two months.
I could sit down right now and play on Deity level and beat it easily.

Wasn't a huge call to power fan.  in fact, wasn't a huge fan of either civ3 or call to power.

like wolves, I liked Alpha Centauri more than those 2.   But Civ2 MGE was the apex of civilization for me.  On the day of my SAT's I was up until 5 am playing it

I've heard great things about Civ4 though.  Definitely getting that somehow.
