With the other deal going through before this one, Cavs have only to cut one player, which will be Tony Battie. I will post this in the Cuts/Signings forum.

Sonics agree.  I get my big man for a bunch of expiring parts and a very good pick.

The lineup now:

Ilgauskas / Finley
Collison / Boykins
Deng / Dickau
Kundla / Diddle
English / Blake

I love this deal.

Alright Sonics. Z has been with me twice, and now he's with you for the 2nd time around. We're even... Cool
So the rebuilding process has begun. Right now I'm set with likely two top five picks in this years draft, a bunch of future picks, and a whole lot of cap space for this coming off-season. Z is an excellent player, but the contract is just sickening. And I wanted some breathing room. I think I got fair value for him, though. Smith is a pretty good player, and the two picks are great.

Yeah, Z led the Sonics to the Finals in SSBA season one.  Here's hoping to another run in this or next year.

I guess with the Collison signing, and the upcoming Deng signing, this makes sense for wins sake, but that contract is just ghastly for a team that is as promising as the Sonics. A cap slip here and a cap slip there goes a long way.

Once I resigne Deng to what looks to be a max-level contract, I will be over the cap anyways.  All of my youngsters have high loyalty marks, and I will stop at nothing to resign them all.

I think the Sonics already got all the youth they need to build a team, I think someone like Ilgauskas is needed to bring them all together and provide some surefire talent while the younger guys mature into their starting positions.

I completely agree. They were almost there last year with Shaq and now have taken the next step with more mature youngsters and some veteran assistance too (Collison is 26 and already the 2nd oldest player now).

But i'm still not sure if giving up veterans Ostertag AND Smith might not haunt the Sonics later, especially if 31yr old Z would get injured (he's been pretty injury-free in SSBA so far)

And don't forget, they lose their best 3pt shooter in Smith, too  Laughing

Hopefully now they can get Boykins some time, who could be an offensive force.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot the forgotten man.

So maybe, just maybe we'll get a sighting of pick # 2 soon ...  Wink

Joe Smith was too good not to play, and Boykins is too good to sit on the bench like Darko.

Passing up the chance to deal three veterans on the decline for a stud center would have been stupid.

A likely top five pick and a future pick makes a big difference, though... Wink

Actually, Cavs, you need to cut two players (one more after Battie).

Trade on hold.
