Re-signing players

I believe Gordon will make an offer at the end of the season to stay with the Clippers. But just in case... I have this question about what I can offer him.

Max Length: 7 years
Max Raises: 12.5% of first years salary
Max Starting Salary: League Maximum or 120% of his prior years salary, whichever is greater.  You may also offer them the MLE or LLE.  Check table below based on experience

Gordon has 3 bird years. Does that mean I can offer him a contract starting at 10,950,000 eventhough I am way over the cap?

Yes you can.

Your cap situation is not a factor when resigning your own players. And since you cannot offer him more than the league maximum your only advantage (to a team with enough cap room for a max deal) is the higher yearly incease and the extra 7th contract year.

But I guess what you wrote does not count for players with less than 3 bird years. Is that right?

Gordon will actually have 4 bird years by the time free agency gets here.

But yes, you can offer him a contract starting at 10.95 million with 12.5% increases.

If he only had 2 bird years you would be limited to 120% of his prior years salary or using an exception.

However I doubt this will be nessecary for Gordon. He will probably make an offer himself.
