2nd year in a row the Raps messed up just about every mock draft.
And, in his interview, Babcock did not mention Araujo once... Personally, I think picking up Charlie V. this year is a bigger screw up then Araujo last year. At least last year there was some justification...

People JUST DON'T GET IT.
Look at this scenario:
Raptors draft Graham at 7.
Raptors draft Ukic at 16.
Raptors draft Sumyung guy at 41, with half the skill and half the potential that Villy has.
PEOPLE WOULD HAVE PRAISED THE RAPTORS TO NO END.
Now, they have Ukic, they have Graham, AND they have Villy who would NOT have been there at 16.
Great draft for them. Can Villy play the 5? That remains to be seen. Still, they needed big men and they got one. Actully 2 with Slokar in the 2nd round.

This coming from the guy who stated he was hoping Green fell to the Raptors?
Give the Raps draft overall was not bad, but because Vazquez and the Russian 18 year old somehow got into the lottery... More luck then forethought.
Villanueva is not a C... PF, yes, SF, occasional... But a lineup of Bosh and Vill is just too light. Unless they have already given up on Araujo, which would be sad, because he showed improvement last year, and I thought he showed himself to be a good guy to have next to Bosh (rebounding, hard fouls, almost an enforcer type)
The Raps have a huge whole a SG, and one at PG, if Rafer cannot get his head on straight. I would have preferred to see Antoine Wright, or maybe Rashard McCants, as well as Graham on the Raps.
The again, I think Vill is going to be Rasheed-like in his career... It will take him a while to find his place and get settled, and I think it wil be after he leaves the Raptors...

The Raps don't really have much of a hole at SG...Rose and Mo pete can both play there. What I really want to see is a starting lineup of: Villy Bosh Graham Peterson Ukic and just turn the burners on as high as they go. That team would score 120 points per game...and give up 130 Actually, look for this to be tried at some point: Araujo Villy Bosh Graham Alston/Ukic Bosh and Villy both have the skills to play the 3. This is what I expect on opening day: Araujo/Villy Bosh/Villy Rose/Graham Mo Pete/Graham Alston/Ukic

I believe in going BPA. However, if the BPA will only successfully work at your current best players position, then, unless he's by far the BPA, you don't pick him. If there's someone comparable who fits, draft them.
I don't think Villy was either the BPA or the best fit available. Bad pick.

I think it's unfair to judge before we see them play.
Now, I'm not trying to justify babs' actions. When I heard "with the 7th pick the raptors take villy" I was shocked myself.
But the thing is, they scouted him hard, they wanted him, they knew he wouldn't be there at 16 so the took a gamble and got him at 7. Still got a targeted player at 16, and a great player at 41.
Bad pick? No. Good pick? No. Liveable pick? Sure.

You're crazy if you think Ukic can play starting PG right away, he'd have 7 or 8 turnovers a game and if you even think that he can even somehow guard Steph, Baron, Billups, Kidd etc, then i don't know what to tell you.

The Raps don't really have much of a hole at SG...Rose and Mo pete can both play there. Villy Bosh Graham Peterson Ukic
Araujo Villy Bosh Graham Alston/Ukic
Bosh and Villy both have the skills to play the 3.
Ukic is likely years away from being able to start. Bosh does not have the skills to be a SF, imo. Villy has better skills at SF, but Bosh just does not have the shooting. Rose is gone, maybe this year, if not next year. That money off the cap will be quite tempting for Toronto. And MoPete cannot defend the SG spot... And think long term. Neither MoPete or Jalen are a long term solution anyway. Toronto has Araujo and Bosh as their long term frontcourt, and that is a nice combo. Now they have Graham, a nice long term solution at SF. Ukic, could, maybe, make a decent long term PG... A young SG, and they had a team that could grow to maturity together... I think Araujo gets screwed in this, and I hope they trade him. The fact that Babcock did not even mention him was just wrong, and should piss him off...
