With this trade I get a great PG in Miller and a very good replacement for Martin. Gooden might still improve some more, while I think Martin reached his peak. And this just gives Z the chance to be more of an option. I think both will re-sign, and give me a very strong core.

Actually, I like the trade for both teams...
Obviously, the Z, Kenyon, Lebron combo was not working... Two A- inside scorers may have been a bit too much...
Miller will be a nice point guard, and the Nuggets now have a great player in Kenyon...
The Nuggets, when Ray gets back, are just scary... Camby, Kenyon, Ray Ray and their PG army...
Just as the Cavs are now... Z, Gooden, Prince, Lebron, and now Miller. Just hope Z and Lebron can carry the offensive load...

With getting Z back, the trade definitely makes sense for both teams. It's just a little more risky for cleveland, since both players are fa's.
Nuggets are now downright scary when Ray gets back. My early pick for champion.

My reasons for making the trade:
1) I didn't want to pay Gooden at the end of the year. He just never really lived up to what I thought he should be putting up. And I wasn't comfortable with Collison being a starter or trying to find a comparable PF to Gooden.
2) I came to the realization that I would never really have enough money under the cap to land a big-name guy in free agency. So I figured that I might as well be over the cap and try to land role players in free agency, like I did this year. And now I have a nucleus for 2-3 years that will be able to grow together, which should increase everyone's cohesiveness.
3) The whole outside-based focus of my offense was something that troubled me, even though it's working now. Plus, Camby can handle all the defense and rebounding; I just needed a frontcourt scorer to pair with him to increase his effectiveness. And, with Allen being out, I wanted a dominant go-to guy, and I didn't really have that.

You're gonna have to turn the 12-21 ship around, and fast. Miller resigned with me for one year when he had multi-year offers for more money. And my winner rating is only 46, I think. So I don't think Miller will be a problem for him to resign. Ray Allen's greed and winner ratings were both higher than Gooden's, and he had no problems staying in the Mile High City. I think you are overestimating Gooden's chances of leaving. And I'm pretty sure the Cavs will start doing better in the win department now. |
