Yeah, I really liked him coming out of the draft.  I was trying to either trade Boozer or the #2 pick for your 3 and 5 that year, and I wanted to get 2 of 3 people:
Ferry
Mercer
Diddle

Ferry was a no-brainer.  Wanted ihm in spite of D potential.  Mercer would have been a great surprise, and Diddle a minor disappointment.

But I'm happy I kept the #2 pick.  And Dalembert's worked out well.

Well, I'm still glad I traded the 5 for Cassell and the 6th. Even though Ellis kinda stinks.

Ellis just needs a position.  Right now he's a mini-francis.

He either needs to improve his handles, in which case he'd be a good scoring pg, or improve his defense and become a sg.

He could do it in a camp or two, but because of his combination of size/skills he is a bit of a project.

I'm sure it was dissapointing for the Rockets that he lost one rating in outside and 1 in insde, as he was a great scorer for me last year.

He averaged about 17 ppg as a starter.

Until yesterday I was mad at myself for not doing the Diddle/Ellis swap that you and I had discussed near the deadline last year.  Of course, that was before Diddle's potential rating went down to C, so it's all hindsight.

Well, I was all ready to do our Diddle for Ellis+1st swap after FA, but the Rockets got Yao back and I got Gooden back.

Anyway, it all worked out for everyone. I have Yao/Peja, you have Kobe.

I love the trade for the Bucks...Kobe has the ability to be a cornerstone and Tinsley, Kobe and Cal Harpring make for a good 3 pieces to build around...for the Suns they get some cap relief, a good pick and a good shooter in Diddle who should will be a good compliment to K-Mart, kinda like a poor man's Ray Allen
