oh what a blockbuster deal.
after Wolves got two first rounders yesterday for nothing I was fully expecting Gatling moving for half of the Nets team. And now it's a mere exchange of projects
winner: Wolves. Actually Perry has as much chance for a solid career as Payton, and they got 2 1st rd picks on top. (what's more puzzeling is that the Wolves best (young) player is a PG and what do they now select with the #20 pick? Exactly ...
)
on a sidenote: after this draft i expect around 50 starting calibre PGs to be available in FA, so every team should be 3 deep with starting PGs for this coming season.
Noone said it was a blockbuster, I don't think
. Your opinion is fair enough tho, Tom.
I had a lot of assets of various value, and needed to consolidate things. I made a strong effort to use them to move up, because though there were some nice players at 15-20, noone I wanted as much as what was available at 11-14. This ended up being the cost, not just from Wolves, with other team - and trading a pair of lesser picks and a future one that should be very late first round won't kill me.
At the time, my plan was to draft two particular players at 11 and 14 who would set up my roster just nicely moving forward but I did a little bonus scouting, which changed things alittle bit, and was part of the reason I took Payton and not others.
Talent wise, yes, I suppose Perry could end up being just as good as Payton - but still, Perry is a long long way from being a starter at C-PF - wouldn't have played for me there- and most useful right now at the 3 - where I have King and Morey - so he wouldn't play for me there either. So right now he's third string at best at any position he plays, with long-term guys ahead of him. I don't know Perry's true potential, but he did nothing last year in TC as I recall, and I have good reason to think that Payton has a bright future. Besides, I have four rooks on my roster from this year alone and am pushing the limits there, so it's a gamble worth taking.
Besides, I'm trying to remain cap-happy for now and the future. These later picks (Perry, 20, Heat) amount to around 6 mil in cap space that I feel is better spent on a more sure thing (Payton) and future free agents.
