Title: Warriors/Raptors - Warriors - processed
Post by: RaptorsGM on April 17, 2005, 07:07:25 PM
This is an extension to the Warriors-Grizz trade. 3-ways are not allowed, so we broke it down. Therefore, the 60 Day rule is lifted.

Warriors Trade:

Luol Deng
Bonzi Wells
Mark Jackson
Robert Horry
Warriors 2009 First Round DP.

Raptors Trade:

Vince Carter
Nolan Johnson
2007 Rockets First Round DP.
2007 Raptors First Round DP.

Raptors will be cutting Pape Sow and Clarence Weatherspoon to make this work.

Well, some might question this move. First, let me tell you the trade that I thought I had completed was for Jamal Crawford and expiring from the Knicks. I also had a trade that might have worked with the Magic for Rashard Lewis. Reason I do this trade over them:

Deng B- B C- A- C B
Craw C+ B+ B A- D+ B
Shard B- A- C A- C C

As you can see, Deng is very, very close to these players, but still on his rookie contract.

Alot of you probably felt that you had better offers, but I had to get a guy that can play SG, and Deng can do that, while some of the others cannot. I'm looking to sign a PF/C this offseason, and therefore I will probably move Boozer to SF, and Deng to SG.

I now have Mihm, Boozer, Deng, Ellis as 4/5ths of my starting lineup for next year, locked up...and because of this trade I have $22,296,796 in cap space. That's the bottom line.

Warriors, I just edited the trade because I forgot the 07 First, and the swap of 08 firsts. Please accept again to show that this is ok.

Also, The Warriors and I have worked out a clause that I will get the better of our 2 2008 picks. We will remember this (I'm putting it in my signature).

You can't do this.  I stated this very clearly that conditions cannot be put on picks.  I even made it an announcement.

Ok, fine, we won't. What we will do, come 2008, is trade our 2008 firsts straight up if he has the better one.

Bottom line: You don't have to put it into the program, that's why it is in my  signature to remember.

This is within the rules. It will be a seperate trade as far as everyone is concerned.

I will block that trade if it happens.

Seriously, we're not doing that.  It's a bookkeeping nightmare, and it leads to future problems.  We found this out the last draft twan ran.

No conditions on future picks.  Period.  That's my rule, and I made it abundantly clear.

Wow, that sucks large.

Just got this reminder from one of the trades I just got.

You can't lotto protect picks. Just like you can't trade "future picks" (without specifying when the picks will come). You either trade a pick or you don't, we're not keeping track of owed picks and conditions. If I can't enter it into the program at the time of the trade it's not a part of the trade.

I guess it does say that though.

Since I've pretty much lost interest in the 76ers game I'll post here.

I won't allow it because it's an absolutely terrible precedent.  One I don't want to set.

Sure, keeping track of this one thing is easy enough.  We should be able to do it.  But future ones will not be.  IF I allow one person to set conditions, then it's hard for me to not allow others.

Then you'll have people who have acquired a "future" first round pick.  But since that hasn't been dispensed yet, it will completely throw off the 2 first round pick rule.

Or you'll have people fail to pay up.  Only way out of that is to report everything to me.  Which would be the biggest bitch in the history of ssba to keep track of all conditions on draft picks.  Something that would surely lead to mistakes.

Confusion on what draft picks could be traded.

Nope, we're not going there.  Sorry.  It's been that way since I've been commish, and I just re-emphasized that a few days ago.  Any confusion and you should have asked me.

We came to another agreement, and your statement is sound and duly noted, dabods...  Sorry for the difficulty...

I don't disagree with you, and there was no confusion - both of us thought this would be ok.

What I would rahter see is Gm's responsible for the "future picks", and be responsible to notify you avout them when need be.

But this way is fine too. Warriors and I have changed the deal again. Warriors, please say you accept again.

Yes, it will.

Also another thing, not that either of you will, but what if one of the gm's quits before the compensation is dispensed?  Oh lordy the nightmare.

I get the difficulty...  And unless you trust your trading partner, it could get messy...  And if something happens, then you have to get involved...
I completely get your point, and understand... Makes sense to me..

No, I completely understand. It's better that you don't bend the rules for anyway, and those were the rules you set. It's my bad for not thinking about it enough.

Lol, not 20 mins after this is posted the Knicks sign on. If he had posted it before he went to his soccer game, this would never have happened.

here's my opinion...the quality of this trade will be on this off-season and next year...if you can get one of the big name FA's and whether Deng produces more than he is now, Deng will prolly get better but his ratings are good now and he's not producing near his ratings

Hawks summed it up perfectly.  If you can land one of the big name FA's then it was obviously a success.  Right now Deng is definetely underachieving, but he's only 19.
