Title: Re: FA day 1 done Post by: PacersGM on July 15, 2008, 01:48:38 AM some really big contracts. after the hornets disaster i had to give sabs his 7th year.
Title: Re: FA day 1 done Post by: SonicsGM on July 15, 2008, 01:50:59 AM Wow, Massenberg getting way too much in Philly.
This following a MLE last year - wow. Title: Re: FA day 1 done Post by: JazzGM-old2 on July 15, 2008, 01:53:55 AM Not terribly surprised I came away empty handed from day #1. I was shooting pretty high. I would have liked to hit a home run, but, went down swinging instead.
Title: Re: FA day 1 done Post by: SixersGM on July 15, 2008, 02:45:05 AM Its a huge risk with signing with signing "bad boy" Battaile. And I could honestly say that it's one of the riskiest move I've made as a GM in SSBA.
The reason for this signing is simple. I need some frontcourt help who's development is in pace with the current development of my team. There are top three big men in my FA list in Sabas, Tarpley then Massenburg. I offered all three of them the max money I can give. I'd rather have something (even a future contract liability) than wasting my cap space in resigning my players. I mean, aside from Harper, Sabas and Tarpley, there is no one out there who is is a "Max type FA" and what strikes me most with Massenburg was his 0 bird years that makes him a very easy prey for signing him and he is currently the most promising player out of the FA pool. Next step, overpaying Julius Erving.. :D (copying this line for next season's Day 1 FA discussion). Title: Re: FA day 1 done Post by: Str8westcoasta on July 15, 2008, 03:18:41 AM Well, I got a much needed backup PG in Sergio Paterson. Can't argue with A+ handles.
Tarpley, Williams and Stockton are back. No point breaking them up when I'm over the cap anyway. Clayton Elie is a roll of the dice really. 6'11, 309 lbs and A- defense. Maybe that B potential will kick in..? Title: Re: FA day 1 done Post by: PacersGM on July 15, 2008, 03:37:16 AM massenburg is nowhere near a max type player. you could have signed him for 3 years and less money and still have bird rights if he develops.

My bad.. :D Don't worry ill try to make up for it. Title: Re: FA day 1 done Post by: RaptorsGM on July 15, 2008, 06:44:35 AM not very often you get a A+ defensive starter with good percentages from the LLE. It's true he only scored 7ppg but he makes the shots he takes which is much better than 7ppg on bad percentages.
Unless there is a big decline in TC (he is 34) Shireman will be a primary backup for Blackman at SG. I think this was a really big signing for me and my defense is going to be pretty good this year with 3 A starters and 1 A+ defender...and I still have my MLE left. Title: Re: FA day 1 done Post by: MagicGM on July 15, 2008, 06:57:48 AM haha lol at massenburg. but the guy is solid. nowhere near max though
glad to have my old players back. Title: Re: FA day 1 done Post by: NetsGM on July 15, 2008, 07:56:55 AM Wow, Massenberg getting way too much in Philly. That is a lot of coin. Intriguing player, if he keeps progressing, he could be quite the contributor. This following a MLE last year - wow. Nice resign on Mags. Title: Re: FA day 1 done Post by: NetsGM on July 15, 2008, 08:01:35 AM Pretty happy to have prodigal son Dudley Bradley back in the fold, adds to my stable of balanced players who can defend and look after the ball - I think this puts me in a bit more of a holding pattern in so far as flipping a big for a small - now I'm waiting for TC for sure: Bradley/Fortson/Hardaway are a fine backcourt, and if one or Elliot/Abdul-Rauf show up, that should be all the depth I need.
Surprised to not have to wait until day 4 to use my MLE . Title: Re: FA day 1 done Post by: HornetsGM on July 15, 2008, 08:52:14 AM I'm glad to get Dell back, though I certainly overpaid. This team is getting more and more difficult to manage cap-wise. Dumping McCracken, and Harpring signing for cheap, saved my a$$ (for this season at least).
Title: Re: FA day 1 done Post by: Str8westcoasta on July 15, 2008, 10:27:12 AM not very often you get a A+ defensive starter with good percentages from the LLE. It's true he only scored 7ppg but he makes the shots he takes which is much better than 7ppg on bad percentages I know I thought that offering the MLE would be pointless as someone would offer him something around 5-6mil... At least I got Sergio with it though... Title: Re: FA day 1 done Post by: WolvesGM on July 15, 2008, 10:53:31 AM Pretty happy with Day 1 of FA. Picked up a scorer off the bench and the Cavs got absolutely no one. Too bad nobody took any of his players stopping him from signing every1 to a 1yr deal making the same exact team from last yr.
A bit surprised at the Massenburg signing though. High risk, high reward I suppose. Title: Re: FA day 1 done Post by: SonicsGM on July 15, 2008, 03:16:15 PM Bringing back Magloire was huge, but I still have that enormous hole in the middle. Here's hoping to land something of any value with the MLE.
Title: Re: FA day 1 done Post by: Iverson2Korver43 on July 15, 2008, 03:37:30 PM Happy to have landed Bias and Hunt... They are both solid young players and I got them on somewhat reasonable money... They are both available for trade though, just to see what I can get...
Title: Re: FA day 1 done Post by: Iverson2Korver43 on July 16, 2008, 12:29:32 AM Another thing I love about my signings:
Evan Hunt - Loyalty 93, Greed 35, Play for Winner 99 He is by no means a stud(hopefully a solid PF), but thought that it was pretty funny he decided to sign with the team that probably has the lowest win rating... |
