Title: Some general musing about the ratings...
Post by: RaptorsGM on January 27, 2005, 05:02:32 PM
How are the ratings with your team? Do you think they are an accurate reflection of the player's ability?

NOTE:

This is not the place to come and beg for a change in ratings. I don't know how our commish feels about that, but my feeling is if you pick the team, you play with what you have.

Raptors:

Rafael Araujo - I don't the he would have gone 8th overall with a "F" potential.  :)

Chris Bosh - He's up to at least 240 pounds in real life. But apparently he is still 210 on FBB.

Donyell Marshall - One thing he is done this year is hit the three ball. His outside shooting rating - C+.

Jalen Rose - His defense rating is B-, while this year it has looked like a F. Caught a big break there.

Vince Carter - In FBB, has turned into the player that everyone thought he could be in real life. Sad thing is, he is nothing like these ratings.

Rafer Alston - I'm not quite sure if the defense is really a B+.

Hey, you win some, you lose some. I'm looking forward to the challenge. I expect another 4 years and I'll be at 50 wins again. Best of luck to you all. :P

I think most of the ratings with the raps roster is pretty fair. Like in araujo's case, i do believe that he's a F..

THe one the bothers me is Iggy's ratings..

Yeah, i know. I bet a lot of scouts and NBA aficionados also believe that Hoffa has reached his potential.

I disagree. He wouldn't have had such high pre-draft ratings if he was expecte dto go for 3 and 2.

Dirk's A defense is a little nutso.

Deke - His defense should  be an A, he's a beast  8)  and his rebounding I think would be better than B. This guy is a legend. However, C+ inside scoring is generous!

Tyronne Lue - I actually think this guy is pretty good (in real life) so I am a bit bias. He's quick as hell, I think his defense is a bit harsh.

Apart from that the Rockets are prety fair, 2 big gins and a lil watered down everywhere else.  :P

I think Dwight's ratings should be exchanged with DeClercq's...

The goal's not really to simulate the nba so much.  I'd be willing to run a completely ficticious league.  If I was interested in real NBA I'd play fantasy basketball (and I do).  Not to mention, changing players now would be unfair to those who have already selected.

Having real players is nice, but it's pointless to get caught up in their ratings.

The bird years is an issue I'll have to take care of, however.

Unless I get that updated roster, I'm going to have to by memory.

Anyone who knows me, knows...

this could get scary.

Can you change Pot then?  Josh Howard has a D on his Pot, and i believe Dan Dickau is on the Hornets.

No, I can't edit players after people have chosen teams.  You chose teams as-is, otherwise that may change why people who already selected past over the team you've chosen.

Players are as-is.  Rosters are as-is.  They can't be changed once the selection process begins.  The only thing I'll change (not change, fix) is the bird years, since htat's a glitch in the program.

I am surprised that you would bring up ratings when your team seems to be benefitting from skewed ratings more than any other team.

I don't see how i benefit from it more than other teams.  Howard C+ C C A C+ D is basicly a bench player and Daniels C+ C C A C B also but with a 6 years deal.  The only thing i benefit from was dirt's D, other than that i can't see much.

Dampier, finley, harris and terry are certainly generous.  Take a look at the other rookies, devin harris is practically godlike compared to them, and still has an a potential.  Jason terry certainly isn't an A defender in any league, Dampier has attributes like it's his contract season every year and Michael Finley looks like he hasn't lost a step since he was 25.

The Bucks are about what I'd expect.

Dez Mason's probably underrated and that long ass contract is an albatross as a result, but the fact that KVH is done after this season instead of 2 seasons makes up for it.

how about extensions

i mean randolph should have his extension (http://www.nba.com/blazers/news/Randolph_Contract_Extension-121246-41.html) in....

Current:
04/05    $1,805,126

Appended to end:
05/06    $10,666,666
06/07    $12,000,000
07/08    $13,333,333
08/09    $14,666,666
09/10    $16,000,000
10/11    $17,333,333

also D-Miles has his extension in, he too was signed this offseason..

Like it's been re-hased, you choose the team as-is, so play it as is.

ok but i dont really understand....

i picked them knowing that he was signed long-term, just like D.Miles

im sure most of the GM's would agree with me about this...i mean its not like im making something up or its opinionated like rating/potential...

We gave you a link to the team rosters, which were used for everyone to base their decisions off of.  The salary info was included there.  These roster files were made before the extensions were handed out, and we told you they were as-is.

If we go changing salaries, people who may had passed over the blazers becauze zach wasn't signed long-term now may have wanted the blazers.  It's something that can't be changed at this point without completely re-doing the selection process.
