Title: Re: FA day 4 done Post by: CelticsGM on February 05, 2008, 05:13:57 AM you missed the Hawks signing of Carlos Tower, also happening today.
Hawks Sign PG Carlos Tower for $8.000.000 over one year. Nice signing. Other than that, they took a big risk - too much IMHO, wasting their cap for next year - handing Brendan LaFrentz a 3 year near max contract. This guy may have scored 21ppg, but he gave up 25ppg and is declining already at age 22, losing 2 ratings since being drafted. This could look like Oscar Ferry, just Ferry was borderline great initially ... Title: Re: FA day 4 done Post by: CelticsGM on February 05, 2008, 05:15:07 AM and before anyone assumes: NO, that Hawks are not my new fav target, but what else this FA is there to talk about ?

Title: Re: FA day 4 done Post by: WizardsGM on February 05, 2008, 08:45:31 AM Have to agree with questioning the Lafrentz signing. So much for piling up on 1 year deals and trying again next year or using those valuable expirings via trade for players far better than Lafrentz.
Title: Re: FA day 4 done Post by: NetsGM on February 05, 2008, 10:23:27 AM meh. It's a 3 year deal for a 20 ppg scorer. I don't see that big of a risk. If it doesn't work out after this year, he can buy his way out of the contract (if he can't trade it for an expiring contract, which I'm sure he'd be able to) fairly easily.
Title: Re: FA day 4 done Post by: BullsGM3 on February 05, 2008, 10:26:23 AM Alright good. Not my first choices but Stip and Finely will give me some decent big man minutes off the bench.
Title: Re: FA day 4 done Post by: HawksGM on February 05, 2008, 11:52:09 AM i'm thrilled to get LaFrentz, nobody else on my team can score, he could possibly score 30/gm for me. He and Tower will start unless Ehlo comes up with something unexpected in TC. I know LaFrentz is bad on D, but hopefully we can figure out a way to hide him defensively. Tower can start at the 2. My team isn't very good scoring, I could very well be the worst team in the league this season, I haven't looked ahead to next year's draft to see who is in it yet, but I'm about to.
Title: Re: FA day 4 done Post by: CelticsGM on February 05, 2008, 02:31:03 PM hey, LaFrentz isn't a slouch, the guy's doing ok, but I just don't understand why it had to be 3 years. Players love big 1yr salaries over smaller longterm committments, so you could have easily signed him AND kept your flexibility for next season.
Title: Re: FA day 4 done Post by: HawksGM on February 05, 2008, 04:50:18 PM Yea, but I think LaFrentz is probably, better than anybody who will sign with me, my FA track record isn't exactly prestigous. LaFrentz only plays on one end of the court, but IF I can get 3 or 4 very good defenders around him, I think he will be a good fit.
Title: Re: FA day 4 done Post by: NetsGM on February 05, 2008, 06:50:14 PM I think Lafrentz can be fine in the right situation, and was by miles the best FA left - and three years is a good term. Besides, he's still very young, so who knows. I hoped his attrocious D and REB would keep him undervalued enough that he'd come on home to the Swamp. C'est la vie.
