Title: picks 6-10 Post by: PacersGM on November 27, 2007, 03:50:49 AM Nets Draft SF Kenny Walker with pick #6 of round 1.
Trailblazers Draft SF Len Bias with pick #7 of round 1. Trailblazers Draft PF Dennis Rodman with pick #8 of round 1. Cavs Draft PF John Salley with pick #9 of round 1. Suns Draft PG Pearl Washington with pick #10 of round 1. Title: Re: picks 6-10 Post by: CelticsGM on November 27, 2007, 05:11:53 AM Nice for the Blazers to end up with Bias and Rodman.
(yeah, i know that Walker has a lot more pot than Bias, we all can see that from your bank account, but i never liked SkyWalker, and not just because he was a Knick) Not sure Dennis can play PF in SSBA, and i'm almost certain he will never average more than 11-12rpg in this league (some stuff simply doesn't translate to FBB), but I like him nonetheless. As for Bias, that name alone has some magical spirit to him and after seeing him average 31ppg at age 36 in my Legend League team ... I just ove this guy !!! :-) Title: Re: picks 6-10 Post by: NetsGM on November 27, 2007, 05:26:00 AM Welcome about, Mr. Walker. Good luck, Len - boy was it hard passing on you being a huge - HUGE - Celtics fan in the 80's and always wondering what could have been.
Bias v. Walker was the debate for me, and yes, Tom, Walker's real pot was a determining factor. Strictly looking at ratings, Bias has the offensive advantage and should turn out to be a very nice scorer (I might regret passing on this later); but Walker has a chance to be a lockdown defender, and is more ready right now to be a significant contributor for the Nets on both ends of the court. With Schmalz in the twilight, Tobey and Milner in their primes and FJ just entering his, the time to strike remains now, and I think Walker fits perfectly into the here and now, as well as the future, of this team. Nice score by the Blazers. Salley's selection is a bit surprising - but I suspect there is a reason. Washington looks solid too. Leaves some very nice players on the board. Title: Re: picks 6-10 Post by: CelticsGM on November 27, 2007, 05:44:40 AM Sky Walker a lockdown defender. Amazing to read that sentence anywhere.
I remember the only skill he ever had was to jump and dunk (and for that jumping skills he was a horrible shot blocker on top). As long as he started for the Knicks in his first 2 campaigns they won 24 and 36 games, respectively. I don't like that guy, did I mention that? Title: Re: picks 6-10 Post by: NetsGM on November 27, 2007, 06:30:32 AM Sky Walker a lockdown defender. Amazing to read that sentence anywhere. Tom, I'd like to introduce you to FBB. I remember the only skill he ever had was to jump and dunk (and for that jumping skills he was a horrible shot blocker on top). As long as he started for the Knicks in his first 2 campaigns they won 24 and 36 games, respectively. I don't like that guy, did I mention that? FBB, Tom. Just kidding, I know what you mean - now that I think of it, I couldn't really stand the guy either. But who knows, maybe he is an incredible leaper, and he will win himself a bunch of dunk comps to get himself enshrined in the hall on points! Title: Re: picks 6-10 Post by: CelticsGM on November 27, 2007, 07:18:26 AM let me answer ivan'esque:
FBB, WTF is FBB? :lol2: Title: Re: picks 6-10 Post by: BlazersGM on November 27, 2007, 08:34:29 AM Yes ! Im really happy i got my nr.1 and 2 guys.Im not sure about Rodman as well, but i hope hell pair nicely with Hakeem. As for Bias, i hope hell be my scoring machine together with Hakeem. Now i just need to find a good PG to lead my team and hopefully we can compete again.
Title: Re: picks 6-10 Post by: HawksGM on November 27, 2007, 09:02:44 AM I've been trying to trade up like crazy, I must not be able to send pm's because none of them have been responded to, but I will be happy with any of the guys on my list at 18. I am going to get a system player regardless of who I'm able to get with that pick. A lot of guys out there, but at pick 18 I won't look at too many potentials, I'll save that for #23 when I have an idea of who will be sitting there for me.
Title: Re: picks 6-10 Post by: SixersGM on November 27, 2007, 09:25:09 AM I like the Kenny Walker pick there. I was chosing between Walker, Harper and Bias. But I ended up with Harper since he's the only guy I can afford using my money to scout his true potential.
Title: Re: picks 6-10 Post by: BlazersGM on November 27, 2007, 05:08:39 PM WHAT do you mean ? you could scout anyone with 200 bucks.
Title: Re: picks 6-10 Post by: NetsGM on November 27, 2007, 05:39:55 PM I think he meant he only had enough money to scout 1 person, and Walker was the one he chose to scout.

If he scouted Walker and still picked Harper that wouldn't exactly make Sky look like a stud ... ;-) Title: Re: picks 6-10 Post by: BlazersGM on November 27, 2007, 05:57:51 PM I would put my money on scouting Bias rather then Harper. Harper will probably be a guy with B or B- handles and A+ defense, im pretty sure about that.
Title: Re: picks 6-10 Post by: RaptorsGM on November 27, 2007, 09:18:13 PM Big shock from Todd imo....but I guess when I was doing my own Walker vs. Bias debate it was more over trade value, not value to team. Still, I think Bias was a top 5 pick and it's hard to not go BPA in a draft like this

I can only scout one guy with my GM points, and I took the chance on Harper. And it DID pay off. :D Title: Re: picks 6-10 Post by: SixersGM on November 28, 2007, 03:34:20 AM Haha.. Im regretting that I didn't scout Kenny Walker's potential. Things might have changed since he's the guy I want before I discovered Harper's potential. And Dr.J and Ronx2 plays the same position. But Dr.J plays "better" (so sad) at the PG position.
Title: Re: picks 6-10 Post by: NetsGM on November 28, 2007, 06:41:46 AM Big shock from Todd imo....but I guess when I was doing my own Walker vs. Bias debate it was more over trade value, not value to team. Still, I think Bias was a top 5 pick and it's hard to not go BPA in a draft like this It was *so* close between these two for a number of reasons. BPA for me came down to two things: 1) how good an offensive player will each be now and in the future, 2) how impactful a defensive player will each be now and in the future. Such a tough call based on the randomness of the game - if Bias has that scorers inclination, and Walker doesn't, then it could be bad for me. If Walker D is kinda hollow, it could be bad for me. In the end, I opted to go with the guy who could play now and score later (hopefully), rather than the guy who could score now and defend later. And yeah, in the end Bias could end up being one of the better players of this draft - and me having egg on my face. |
