Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: SpursGM-old on March 25, 2005, 03:34:02 PM Spurs Trade:
Stephen Jackson and the 30th pick Lakers Trade: picks 22 & 23 Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: HornetsGM on March 25, 2005, 03:39:40 PM I really don't understand this for the spurs... At all...
Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: LakersGM-old on March 25, 2005, 03:39:51 PM Accept
Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: LakersGM-old on March 25, 2005, 03:40:36 PM Sure I lost some cap space, but the FA pool is pretty bad at the moment and I couldnt have gotten a player as good as SJax through FA or the Draft, so this is a great deal for me.
Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: NetsGM on March 25, 2005, 03:41:20 PM Yeah, I don't think the Spurs will get anyone as good as Jackson in the draft. And if you were going to trade Jackson, you might as well have drafted Terpening or Del Negro, IMO two better prospects than Hobson.
Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: RaptorsGM on March 25, 2005, 03:41:50 PM Fantastic trade for the Lakers.
Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: CavsGM on March 25, 2005, 03:43:17 PM The Spurs now have the 18th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 25th picks. Not to mention the 7th and 15th which were already used. Holy sh*t.
Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: SpursGM-old on March 25, 2005, 03:43:24 PM Spurs are looking at their team in 2-3 years. I will have 8 of the top 25 players in this draft. (I own tomorrow's draft).
I can move Ginobili anywhere from the pg to sg to sf position depending on how my team comes together. I still have George as an adequate sf for this year. Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: RaptorsGM on March 25, 2005, 03:44:15 PM Spurs have 5 consecutive picks
Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: NetsGM on March 25, 2005, 03:45:55 PM Yeah, but I think you're overvaluing picks past the late teens. This isn't the real NBA where potential stars slip. You're not going to find a Zach Randolph at the 20th pick or whatever he was.
Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: GoldenStateGM on March 25, 2005, 03:46:10 PM We assume the Spurs have two players targeted with those two picks...
Spurs have an amazing 6 1st round picks in this draft.. And that is 6 guaranteed salaries for the next 4 years... Overall, great trade for the Lakers... Hey, anyone notice Ginobli is a decent point guard... With an A defense... Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: RaptorsGM on March 25, 2005, 03:46:53 PM No you're not.
All you're gonna do is sheel out SIX 10 million + contracts. Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: LakersGM-old on March 25, 2005, 03:49:02 PM I looked at the remaining draft pool and determined that the quality is abyssmal compared to early on in the draft. None of the guys left over will become stars, there could be a few solid bench players at most though.
Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: RaptorsGM on March 25, 2005, 03:51:46 PM I think that the decent bench players are few and far between too.
Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: SpursGM-old on March 25, 2005, 03:54:23 PM Ah...but there is always potential. I may go bust over the next 4 years. On the other hand I may find 4 or 5 gems in my 8 draftees.
Either way once I hit 4 draft picks for this year I was going to be over the cap for the next 4 years. Now I will have young guys who may develop and then can deal. Or own their bird rights and be tough for several years. Some gamble on FA, some gamble with trades. I decided to gamble with draft picks. Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: NetsGM on March 25, 2005, 03:57:23 PM Well, I think 4 years from now you'll realize you're gambling too much on potential. Some of them might surprise you, but I doubt any one of the potential draftees left get close to being as good as Jackson is now. And I'm including the next 6 picks in the draft who won't be available at 22.
Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: GoldenStateGM on March 25, 2005, 04:05:43 PM Do you realize that by 2009, you may have 8 players on their rookie contracts on your team!!!
Hey, if the Spurs Gambit works out, and they find one jewel in the draft and some decent role players, it could be great. But it will take years to find out.... However, whoever the lucky dogs are that traded for the Spurs 1st round pick in 2007 and 2008 are likely to be very happy... Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: RaptorsGM on March 25, 2005, 04:06:32 PM Yeah, who is that?
Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: GoldenStateGM on March 25, 2005, 04:10:43 PM Sonics in 2007...
Minny in 2008... Why couldn't it have been Eastern conference teams... Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: LakersGM-old on March 25, 2005, 04:11:02 PM Doesnt philly have them in the deal that gave them tim duncan?
Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: RaptorsGM on March 25, 2005, 04:11:42 PM Philly traded away every draft pick they could.
Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: NetsGM on March 25, 2005, 04:12:30 PM No, Philly gave up 2 picks.
Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: LakersGM-old on March 25, 2005, 04:14:34 PM ya i got it switched around, but the sonics hav 07 and wolves have 08.
Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: SonicsGM on March 25, 2005, 05:28:26 PM I love it...the 2007 Spurs First Rounder is looking better and better and better and better........
Title: Spurs - Lakers deal - processed Post by: SpursGM-old on March 25, 2005, 05:52:48 PM I think the Spurs can field a decent starting 5 without using one single rookie. I don't think many of you realize how much experimentation I did with the DC and style of play last year.
But then I may end up with egg on my face. And you can call me the Jerry Krause of the SSBA. And those 8 players will cost about $20 mil...that leaves a lot of space left. And all I am really hoping for is that 2 pan out to be solid starters at their position; the rest can be role players. I have 4 years and their bird rights to evaluate them. I may be wrong betting on the draft but the bright spot is if I bomb....I'll have a ton of cap space in 2010 when this rookie class becomes free agents. |
